CHINA'S IVORY CRAZE KILLING AFRICA'S ELEPHANTS

Africa's Elephants are on the verge of extinction and it's amazing that this grave disaster is being engineered by a few number of wealthy people in China.

Ivory, popularly referred to as "WHITE GOLD" in China (the number One market for ivory in the world) is currently in very HIGH DEMAND. Ivory and rhino horn powder are valued for ceremonial purposes, for religious purposes and cultural purposes in Asian countries like China, Vietnam, other parts of Asia.

About 2 decades ago, when Africa's Elephant population dropped from 1.3M to an unprecedented "600,000 ", a ban was placed on the sale and purchase of ivory. The story is currently not the same as 90%  of the dead elephants found recently in the Central Africa Countries had been poached.(hunted illegally & their tusk removed).

                                                                    Poached Elephant

Ivory sells for about $3,000 per kilogram in the black market and an estimated eight tonnes of elephant ivory worth about $20 million have been seized by Hong Kong's custom officials within the past 12 months alone. Hong Kong's Ports serve as a major avenue for smuggled goods into Mainland China.

Elephant poaching is a very organized crime  perpetrated by armed militias in Africa. China must urgently ensure that Ivory trade is discouraged to prevent this possible disaster.
