Gunmen have killed about 41 persons at Birane village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, after intercepting a vehicle conveying bridesmaids and traders to the community market. They reportedly slit the throat of the driver and then opened fire on the vehicle, killing all on board.

Jacob Zuma, South Africa's embattled President has resigned after intense pressure from his own party nine years after he assumed the position of President of South Africa. Even though he announced he was quitting with immediate effect he disagreed with his ANC party's decision. The ANC had told him to step down or face a vote of no confidence in parliament.

Netherlands' second tier side Fortuna Sittard have suspended former Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh for what it calls "unacceptable actions".

The club statement said that he has been put on "non-active" duties, stopping short of saying he has been sacked.

"Several attempts by the club to encourage a change in the coach's behaviour have unfortunately not worked, resulting in an unworkable situation," the statement said.
