The UK Government admitted that sodium fluoride, a key ingredient in the killer gas, has been permitted to be sent to Syria from the UK. The SARIN gas killed more than 1,400 people in a sickening chemical weapons attack last month.
It was sent after the UK Government handed export licences to two firms between 2004 and 2010. Experts have rubbished claims the chemical was for industrial use, fearing it could have been diverted to Syria’s blood-soaked ruler, Bashar al-Assad.
The British Government has some very serious explaining to do to the house of commons regarding this.
A spokesman for the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, that approved the sales, refused to name the firms involved.
He claimed: “The stated end use was the production of cosmetics and there was no reason to link them with Syria’s chemical weapons.”
