The police in Bayelsa, on Wednesday, arrested a 45-year-old man identified as Omo, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl in Etegwe community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The alleged rapist, who hails from Edo State, is married with five children. He allegedly lured the primary school pupil, who is the daughter of his neighbour, to an uncompleted building close to the house where he raped and left her bleeding.
Police preliminary investigation showed that her mouth was gagged before she was raped. Kate, the sister of the victim, said her violated sister crawled into the house crying in pain and saying that he had raped her.
“She struggled into the house while I was watching television and told me what happened. I immediately arranged a vehicle and rushed her to a private hospital for first aid treatment. The bleeding was stopped and a certified report obtained,” Kate said. According to some neighbours, Omo was fond of indulging in such acts with the neighbourhood kids.
“He lured the girl to the uncompleted building under the pretext of sending her on an errand. Instead, he grabbed her and dragged her into the uncompleted building and raped her,” a source said.
