SENATE POSTPONES AMAECHI'S MINISTERIAL SCREENING AGAIN.

The Senate, for the third time in two weeks, postponed the screening of Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State on Tuesday as his name was not listed among the three nominees slated to appear before the senators for the exercise.

Ameachi was number three on the list of eight nominees billed for screening on Tuesday based on the order paper earlier produced by the senate before it was withdrawn.

Reasons for the reduction in the number of nominees for screening from eight to three and eventual deletion of Amaechi’s name were not known as of the time of filing this report

The three nominees shortlisted for the exercise are Mr. Adebayo Shittu (Oyo), Omoleye Daramola (Ondo) and Khadija Abba-Ibrahim (Yobe).

Meanwhile the initial list released before plenary contains the following names in this order: Adebayo Shittu (Oyo); Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Khadija Abba-Ibrahim (Yobe); Bawa Bwari (Niger); Ocholi james (Kogi); Mansur Muhammed (Zamfara); and Zainab Ahmed (Kaduna)

Our correspondent had reported on Monday that the senate may postpone Ameachi’s screening again because of critical issues surrounding his nomination, especially the petition against him by Port Harcourt based Integrity Group.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Imo North, Nneji Achonu, on Tuesday submitted 10 petitions against the nominee from his state, Prof Anwuka Gozie.

Senate President Bukola Saraki referred the petitions to the Ethics and Public Petitions Committee with a directive to submit its report on Thursday.
