Exactly One year ago (05-10-2012), four students of the University of Port-Harcourt lost their lives in the most gruesome manner at ALUU VILLAGE in Rivers State.
The boys were accused of robbery by a debtor whom reports claimed they visited in an attempt to recover the funds. Some villagers rounded them up, stripped them naked, beat them mercilessly and burned them to death while other villagers watched, cheered and even caught the tragic event on tape. The police though present at the scene simply encouraged the perpetrators of the jungle justice to finish off the 4 accused.
Someone posted the pictures and video online and it went viral. That event have since become a reference point for the campaign against JUNGLE JUSTICE IN NIGERIA.
Have we really learnt key lessons from this event and put them to positive use? The answer is NO!!!!!!!!!!!
There have been many more acts with most unreported.
As at the hour of this write-up, the suspects arrested and charged to court for the murder of #ALUU4 are yet to be sentenced. Our "VIBRANT" justice system is still dancing around the drama. Infact, a Port Harcourt court has fixed OCT 17 for the bail application hearing of the 12 accused persons.
