SUPER CYCLONE KILLS 13 IN INDIA

If not for the massive evacuation embarked on by the india government, Cyclone Phailin which eventually hit india on Sunday would have killed more than the thirteen people who perished.

This is the most powerful storm to have hit india in 14 years. It destroyed power lines, homes and overturned vehicles.

For clarity, hurricanes are referred to as cyclones in the india ocean. At 140 mph wind speed, Phailin made landfall as the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane. The strongest hurricane is a Category 5, which comes with winds greater than 155 mph. By Sunday, some 13 hours later, it was the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane with winds of about 80 mph.

Thumbs up tp the india government who were able to avoid the 1999 hurricane disaster where more than 10,000 people lost their lives when Cyclone 05B ripped through india.
