US AND RUSSIA IN LANDMARK DEAL ON SYRIA

The drumbell of war over Syria's possession and use of chemical weapon has finally faded as the main gladiators; US and Russia have both agreed to disarm the Assad led government.

Both countries have agreed on an ambitious plan to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons by the middle of next year and left the door open to sanctions if Damascus failed to comply.

The landmark deal on Saturday was hailed by the West, but rejected by rebels who warn that it would not halt the bloodshed in the conflict which has killed more than 110,000 people and displaced millions in two and a half years.

TACKLING BODY ODOUR, SMELLY FEET AND EXCESS SWEAT

Although many people shy away from attempts to discuss issues relating to body odour and personal hygiene, it causes even greater embarrassment if not dealt with appropriately. The piece below culled from ThisDay is very helpful and informative. Please read and share.

Commonly, most people who have passed puberty produce body odour. It can be assumed as one of the secondary sexual characteristics in the grown-ups at puberty. Puberty usually occurs between 12-16 years in girls, and 13-17 years in boys.

Although, human sweat is mostly odourless, micro-organism like the bacteria that live on the skin can break down the sweat into acids, which produces an unpleasant odour. Medically, this condition is known as bromhidrosis, apocrine bromhidrosis, fetid sweat or malodorous sweating.

Body odour can be made worse by the following conditions/situations: Obesity, Eating a diet that is high in spicy foods and having certain medical conditions, such as diabetes. Also of relevance here is the fact that body odour is commoner in men, since men tend to sweat more than women.

NBA KICKS AGAINST AMNESTY FOR KIDNAPPERS

Some prominent lawyers in Lagos and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Friday frowned at a call to grant amnesty to kidnappers.

In interviews  the lawyers said that the call would encourage young Nigerians to take to crime.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Mike Ozekhome, who regained freedom from his abductors on Thursday, said that the Federal Government should grant amnesty to kidnappers. Ozekhome said that initiating amnesty programmes for kidnappers would reduce crimes in the country.

INDIA GANG RAPE CONVICTION

As an Indian court handed down death sentences to those accused in the brutal gang rape and murder of the 23-year-old physiotherapy student in New Delhi last December, people distributed sweets on the street and tweeted “justice served.” The appeals will drag on for a while, but in a country where a typical rape case takes nine years, the model speed with which this case was settled has elicited jubilation. Yet, if anything, this case highlights the problems with India’s criminal justice system, not its strengths.

The main — if not the only — reason why the wheels of justice moved so swiftly this time was the domestic outrage and the international headlines this case generated. This episode got the attention of India’s middle classes because they couldn’t hide behind any special biographical detail about the victim or her behavior to tell themselves that this couldn’t happen to them. She wasn’t some brazen hussy from the village traipsing around town alone late at night. No, she came from a “respectable” family, was appropriately dressed and had a male friend escorting her back from the mall where they had gone to catch The Life of Pi.

Nigeria are one of the five top seeds for next week’s draw for the final World Cup playoffs after they ranked in the top five African teams still in the competition. They have recorded 707 points and dropped to 36th place on the global ranking.

This is good news as they will avoid some dangerous oppositions for the final play-offs.

Cote d’Ivoire remain the top African team as they are the 18th best team in the world, while Ghana are second as they are rated 24th in the world.

Nigeria will play either of Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ethiopia and Senegal.

We're secretly wishing to be drawn against either Burkina Faso or Ethiopia..... That is what we call "One-Leg-In".

OZEKHOME TELLS HIS STORY - WHICH WAY NAIJA?

The family of lawyer & human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome(SAN), who was released just yesterday after more than 2 weeks in the den of kidnappers must be grateful to God.

There have been instances where victims were never found alive and yet life goes on.

My worry however is how organised and sophisticated this crime has become. Recall that 4 Policemen lost their lives in active duty when they attempted to rescue the lawyer. He didn't comment on the ransom paid to secure his release. This obviously means that the identity of the kidnappers may not be known yet, hence, they might strike again.

The FG from all indications is constantly loosing this war against organised crime in the country. Efforts are really not enough as what we crave for is a free country, a sane one, devoid of bad elements, at least to the minimum.

The government is currently distracted with politicking at the expense of the oath of office which includes ensuring the safety of its citizens.

IN GOD ONLY WE TRUST.

NAMES OF THE NINE SACKED MINISTERS AND THEIR FORMER PORTFOLIOS

SACKED MINISTERS
President Jonathan relieved Nine ministers of their duties yesterday during the FEC meeting at Aso Rock. This man remains very unpredictable as the Ministers had no premonition of what befell them.

GEJ reportedly thanked the sacked ministers for their services to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours. No one could affirm if this was politically motivated.

I wonder why he didn't LabaRAM Maku though.
