PARENTS BEAT 2 CHILDREN TO DEATH IN LAGOS ON CHILDREN'S DAY.
In two different locations in Lagos State, two parents on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 beat two kids to death, while other children were marking their day worldwide.
The incident, which happened last night in Agege and Oregun areas of the state, was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).
She said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Pen Cinema Division received an anonymous call while on patrol with his policemen that one Paul Obiefule of 22 Omitola Street, Agege and his wife, had beaten a 12-year-old boy, Onyedikachi Mbanozo to a coma.
She said although the DPO swiftly moved in and arrested the suspects, the boy eventually died last night as a result of severe bleeding.
Similarly in Oregun, one Bright of No 6, Olarewaju Street, Ikeja, was allegedly struck on his head with a metal belt by his father for stealing N1,000.
The victim was said to have been rushed to Divine Private Hospital at Lawal Street, Oregun, where he was confirmed dead.
Both corpses have since been deposited at the Lagos State University Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja mortuary for autopsy.
Braide said the cases were undergoing investigation at State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
She warned parents to desist from beating their children, as there are other measures to punish children other than capital punishment.
She said: “Any parent who kills his or her child will go in for it as the law will take its course. The law will not be lenient if you are a parent or not. Once you kill, you will be arrested and prosecuted.”
