Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange released a joint statement on Thursday to address the now infamous elevator showdown video.
'As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it,' they said in a statement.
'Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.'
A hotel surveillance video was leaked on Monday showing Solange, 27, lashing out wildly at her 44-year-old brother-in-law, with both her arms and her legs, while her sister, 32, stood beside them looking curiously impassive.
'The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false,' the statement continued.
'At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.'
The famous family were in an elevator descending from a soiree that followed the annual fashion fest at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art last week.
The seemingly unprovoked attack plays out in footage obtained by TMZ.
Solange can clearly be seen kicking and swinging violently at Jay Z, the father of her two-year-old niece, Blue Ivy, after the trio step into the elevator.
Solange was screaming at her family member when the fight erupted and can be seen in the footage mouthing what appears to be a diatribe at the hip hop legend, according to TMZ sources.
In the footage, a man who looks to be a bodyguard tries to hold Solange back but she manages to rain blows on the rapper several times, and even hits him with her purse.
Because the tape does not include audio, the world has been left to wonder what caused Beyonce's younger sister to violently lash out at her brother-in-law.
The latest theory from alleged insiders pieces together various different aspects.
Sources told PageSix that while Solange was reportedly 'provoked' during an outburst with designer Rachel Roy before getting in the elevator, the singer was dealing with a number of emotional and financial problems that came to a head at that moment.
'She used to be on (Jay Z’s) label, but now she isn’t. And she moved to New Orleans from Brooklyn with her son. Solange still spends a lot of time in New York, but she is further away from her family, which has created some issues,' a source told the paper.
'Clearly she was on something at the party, she was drunk and out of it. The girl is crazy and prone to outbursts. She got in the elevator with Jay and Bey. He had made a comment that she didn’t like, and she just snapped,' another person said
A source said Solange's pals 'wouldn't leave and kept name dropping Jay Z. They were pretending they were guests of his and not hers. Management went to Julius (Beyonce's bodyguard) and said there's a problem.'
Some reports have argued that Solange may have been overreacting in defense of her sister - who is seen standing in the corner as Solange attacks her husband.
Meanwhile, the Standard Hotel says it has identified and fired the person who recorded security video appearing to show Beyonce's sister attacking Jay Z inside an elevator last week.
The establishment says the person has been terminated for 'breaching the security polices of the hotel and recording the confidential CCTV video.'
