CHOLERA OUTBREAK KILLS 3 IN LAGOS



Cholera, a deadly disease often transmitted primarily by drinking water or eating food that has been contaminated by the feces (waste product) of an infected person, including one with no apparent symptoms has been reported in some local government areas in Lagos, as it has currently claimed three lives.

In view of the development, the state government has reiterated the need for members of the public to observe and maintain adequate personal and environmental hygiene at all times, as part of the measures to prevent the spread of cholera epidemic which had been detected in the state.

JONATHAN ORDERS PROBE OF STELLA ODUAH'S ARMOURED CAR SAGA


President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday set up a panel to probe allegations that his aviation minister purchased two armoured vehicles worth $1.4 million (870,000 euros), his spokesman said.

Claims that Aviation Minister Stella Oduah ordered the vehicles were first revealed by the US-based website Sahara Reporters and the news has sparked outrage in the country where tens of millions of people live in acute poverty.

30 GUNMEN KIDNAP MONARCH IN UYO

The Paramount Ruler of Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Ubong Assam, was yesterday, abducted by no fewer than 30 gunmen, who stormed his palace at 2a.m.

The kidnappers took the royal father to Unyeghe village, Mbo Local Government Area in a car, transferred him to a waiting speedboat and left for the high seas. The kidnap, it was learnt, might be in connection with N2.6 billion compensation paid by ExxonMobil to the four host local government communities, which the youths had rejected.

Embattled Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah seems to have a special affection for vehicles as a new SaharaReporters investigation reveals that the National Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), another agency under the Ministry of Aviation, also purchased four Toyota Tundra vehicles for the Minister.

Nigerians are currently up in arms about two armored cars purchased for her by another agency, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, at the scandalous rate of N225million, and many are calling for her to be fired.
