COURT ORDERS OKONJO IWEALA TO ACCOUNT FOR MISSING N30TN.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered a former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to account for the N30tn which a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Charles Soludo, claimed went missing under her watch.

Justice Ibrahim Buba said ordering Okonjo-Iweala to offer explanation on the allegedly missing money was the only thing to do since she had failed to put in a valid defence against a suit seeking an order, mandating her to account for the allegedly missing money.

Soludo had, sometime ago, alleged that “at least, N30tn was either stolen or unaccounted for, or grossly mismanaged” over the years that Okonjo-Iweala was in office as the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REMOVES PETROLEUM SUBSIDY, RAISES PUMPPRICE TO N145/L.

The federal government has deregulated the downstream sector of the petroleum industry, which will raise the price of fuel to N145 a liter.

According to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, who made the announcement after meeting with top government officials in Abuja on Wednesday, the policy aims to increase the supply of fuel in Nigeria.

Stakeholders present at the meeting agreed that the primary cause of fuel scarcity in Nigeria is “the inability of importers of petroleum products to source foreign exchange at the official rate due to the massive decline of foreign exchange earnings of the federal government.” This has prevented private oil marketers from meeting their 50 percent portion of the total national supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

This is also the latest development in a massive probe of Mr. Dasuki’s fraudulent use of public funds which are now known to have been used to bribe top military officials, rig the Ekiti State gubernatorial elections, and be diverted to accounts belonging to powerful public officials.

EFCC sources said that Mr. Jonathan’s former spokesman, Rueben Abati, took N72 million; top-PDP chieftain Uche Secondus took N250 million, and Ahmed Gulak was found to have taken N50 million. Bello Fadile, a security analyst who was used by Jonathan to attempt to stop INEC from releasing the 2015 presidential election results, took N754 million.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said they traced more than $88 million to a hidden account controlled by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sterling Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Adeola.

One EFCC source said that the $88 million found at Sterling Bank was separate from the $115m given to Fidelity Bank by the ex-oil minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
