The movie, 'Half of a Yellow Sun, was, on Friday, finally approved by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), for wide release.

This is in confirmation of the story exclusive published on this website three days ago about a possible release of the movie which was unapproved by the Nigerian censor's board for months.

The board had delayed the release of the movie since April, citing current security situation in Nigeria and claiming the movie, which is based on a novel of same name on the Nigerian civil war, could incite violence.

JUNE 12 ELECTIONS - 21 YEARS AFTER.

Many days pass unnoticed in the annals of our country, but not June 12. It has been canonised, and fittingly so, as a defining moment in Nigeria’s history. A presidential election held on June 12, 1993 and won by the business mogul, Moshood Abiola, was unaccountably annulled by the military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida. Abiola, who was incarcerated by the Sani Abacha regime for demanding the restoration of his electoral mandate, died in mysterious circumstances in 1998.

The annulled presidential poll was remarkable, not just for its fairness, but for breaking barriers to national unity, especially our fault lines of religion and ethnicity. Abiola, the flag bearer of the Social Democratic Party, was a Muslim and he chose a fellow Muslim, Babagana Kingibe, as his running mate. This Muslim-Muslim ticket defeated a Muslim-Christian ticket of Bashir Tofa and Sylvester Ugoh of the National Republican Convention.

VICTORY FOR LASU STUDENTS AS FASHOLA ANNOUNCES REDUCTION IN TUITION FEES

Students of the Lagos State University had staged many protests to air their grievances against the “high school fees” and had demanded its reduction.

Renaissance: New Emir, New Kano, New North, New Nigeria, New Africa.. -

High scale intellectual dialogue, economic and social methodical strategizing, complexity cognizant address and redress of existing and future societal challenges and immense strength, are some of the features that defined the ancient Kano dynasty and that also define its new Emir.

The ascension of HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to the Emirship of Kano, Nigeria’s #2 Muslim leadership position and by most measures, the number one traditional leadership office of northern Nigeria can be described as a meeting of two of nature’s most powerful African forces.

The Kano dynasty is one of the most notable kingdoms in ancient world history. In immense wealth, population, economic activity and cultural and intellectual output, Kano rivaled any European kingdom. It was the most prosperous of all provinces under the Fulani Dan Fodio Empire. Lord Luggard, the first Governor General of Nigeria estimated in 1904 that there were 170 walled towns still in existence in the whole of just the Kano province of Nigeria. He described Kano: “Commercial emporium of the western Sudan.’ Of its wall, he said, ‘I have never seen, nor even imagined, anything like it in Africa.”

POLICE ORDERED TO ARREST EMIR OF KANO, SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI.

The Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on fraud-related charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to reliable sources at the Presidency in Abuja, the team of policemen at the Emir’s palace in Kano received the order from the Nigeria police headquarters to place Mr. Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor’s lodge.

The sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sanusi was to be arrested at his private home on Sunday night after his appointment was announced by the Kano State Governor.  It would be recalled that the presidency embarked on several frantic measures to frustrate the former CBN governor’s emergence as Emir, including the premature congratulations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to one of the candidates before the choice was announced.
