#SAYNOTORAPE - SURGE IN RAPE CASES

This ENORMOUS MONSTER  called RAPE  is at the forefront of our societal challenge in Nigeria as strange and unbelievable  stories emerge daily about this crime. Note however that many cases are unreported which clearly indicates a RED ALERT.

Statistics on rape incidents may still not be a good reflection of the extent of the crime. Stigmatisation of rape victims keeps the numbers low, a further armoury to the criminals.

In the United States, where about 80,000 cases of rape reported to the police from 2004 to 2010, according to United Nations data, US Justice and Department estimates 300,000 American women are raped annually, and the Centre for Disease Control says 1.3 million.

The 678 cases the Lagos State Police Command said it recorded between March 2012 and March 2013, should be seen as numbers: Unreported rape cases are on the increase. More alarming is that the epidemic affects underage persons. The media are replete with reports of young girls sexually violated, as young as three months.

#ALUU4 - ONE YEAR LATER

Exactly One year ago (05-10-2012), four students of the University of Port-Harcourt lost their lives in the most gruesome manner at ALUU VILLAGE in Rivers State.

The boys were accused of robbery by a debtor whom reports claimed  they visited in an attempt to recover the funds. Some villagers rounded them up, stripped them naked, beat them mercilessly and burned them to death while other villagers watched, cheered and even caught the tragic event on tape. The police though present at the scene simply encouraged the perpetrators of the jungle justice to finish off the 4 accused.
