WORLD'S SECOND LARGEST DIAMOND HAS BEEN DISCOVERED IN BOTSWANA.

A diamond nearly the size of a tennis ball, second only in size to a stone that is now housed in Britain's crown jewels, was unearthed in Botswana this week.

The 1,111-carat stone was discovered in the Karowe Mine in Botswana, which is owned and operated by the Vancouver-based Lucara Diamond Corp, according to the Wall Street Journal. An 813-carat diamond was also found in the cache.

The largest diamond ever uncovered was a 3,106-carat stone found in 1905 in South Africa. It was split into several separate gems that include the Great Star of Africa and the Lesser Star of Africa, two stones that are now housed in the crown jewels of the United Kingdom.

"I am truly at a loss for words," Lucara chief cxecutive William Lamb told the Wall Street Journal. "We are truly blessed by this amazing asset."

The stone's value could reportedly be in the tens of millions of dollars. Blessed indeed.
