BAYELSA PDP IN DISARRAY AS POLITICAL HEAVYWEIGHTS DEFECT TO APC AHEAD OF DEC 5 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state appears to be in deep trouble following the planned defection of political heavy weights of party, including former deputy governors, senators and their supporters in the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the governorship election in December 2015.

Ahead of the governorship election billed for 5 December, Governor Seriake Dickson is trying to break a jinx in the state, given that, no governor has served two terms.

PM News gathered that the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo and the national chairman of APC, John Odigie-Oyegun and the National Executive Committee members are set to warmly receive the defectors led by Chief Timi Alaibe, a former Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission and pioneer ex-Special Adviser to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua on the Amnesty Programme on Saturday August 15, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Others are Chief Alex Ekiotenne, a former honorary adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson, are headed to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

We learnt that former deputy Governors; Nestor Binabo, Werinipre Seibarugu; former Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi; Senators John Brambaifa, Clever Ikisipo and Heineken Lokpobiri, Ambassador Emmanuel Otiotio, a former House of Representatives member, Dr. Stella Dorgu; a former NDDC chairman, Prof. Tarila Tebepah; Rear Admiral FBI Porbeni (retd.); former members of the House of Representatives – Christopher Enai, Warman Ogoriba, Bonus Indiamaowei, Nelson Belief, Nadu Karibo; former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Gideon Ekeowe; and former Deputy Speaker, Fini Angaye.

The defection of prominent politicians in the state with large following may serve as a death knell for the party that produced the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan looks cornered as his party is unarguably in tatters. There are allegations that Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the wife of the former president is at loggerhead with Governor Dickson.

Patience is alleged to have vowed to work against the re-election of Dickson for some irreconcilable differences even if it means using the ‘enemy’ territory as launched pad.

It is learnt that Timi Alaibe has not given up his ambition to be the governor of Bayelsa state; an ambition he may not realize remaining in PDP.

How APC would fare in the coming months to the governorship primaries is yet to be seen as former Governor Timipre Sylva, the party’s rallying point is also staging a comeback to the seat of government in Yenagoa.
