POWER BLACKOUT IN MOST PARTS OF NIGERIA TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS

The Federal Government has said that the near total blackout being currently experienced in most parts of the country will take the next two weeks to be resolved.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, said this in Abuja on Tuesday at the 6th Power Summit/Civil Society Organisations Forum. The electricity supply situation worsened in recent weeks as a result of acute shortage of gas to thermal power stations, shutdown of some plants for maintenance purposes and the failure of at least seven plants to generate power at all.

Nebo said gas supply constraints had grounded several power stations leading to a major cut in supply to the national grid, adding that repair works on the western area gas pipeline was almost completed.

Playing before an estimated 12,560 crowd the Black Stars won the tough decider with 10 men after Kwabena Adusei was given marching orders for a second reckless tackle on Abubakar Ibrahim.

NIGERIA POLICE EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLING - JUSTICE AT LAST FOR EMMANUEL VICTOR

At last, justice has come the way of the oppressed. In a bold statement by a Nigerian court, a trigger-happy policeman has been sentenced to death by hanging after he was found guilty of gratuitously killing a young man in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, a little over two years ago.

Although the judgement delivered by Justice Lucky Boufili will not bring 20-year-old Emmanuel Victor back to life, his mother, Grace, in whose presence the boy was shot, and other members of the family can take cold comfort from the fact that the perpetrator, Matthew Egheghe, will not go scot-free. They can also be consoled by the knowledge that the courageous judgement will send a message to other security agents who take pleasure in routinely gunning down innocent citizens of this country in circumstances that tend to promote impunity.

In the statement, Mohammed claimed that the affected Senators had written a formal letter informing the Senate leadership of their decision and that the said letter would be read during Wednesday’s plenary.

However, neither the Senators concerned nor the Senate President, David Mark, made any reference to the issue during the day’s sitting. Mark did not read the letters, which some claimed were submitted to him by the individual Senators late on Tuesday.

MANCHESTER CITY DESTROYS TOTTENHAM (AWAY) "5 - 1" TO OVERTAKE ARSENAL IN THE EPL

Manchester City surged to the top of the Premier League with a 5-1 victory at Tottenham, although a suspected hamstring injury to Sergio Aguero will have dampened the mood slightly.

Aguero gave City a deserved lead on the quarter-hour mark, latching onto David Silva's through ball to slide it in past Hugo Loris and score for the eighth successive game. It made it seven goals in five games for Aguero since he returned from a month out with a calf problem in the FA Cup replay against Blackburn.

Spurs thought they had levelled when Michael Dawson side-footed Christian Eriksen's free kick in at the back post, but he was ruled to have been offside. Aguero then limped off shortly before half-time with a suspected hamstring injury, with Stevan Jovetic coming on in his place.

Five minutes after the restart, Spurs were down to 10 men when Danny Rose was adjudged to have brought down Edin Dzeko in the box, despite appearing to get the ball. Yaya Toure stepped up to send Lloris the wrong way and make it 2-0. It didn't take long for City to grab their next goal. Silva latched onto Pablo Zabaleta's cut-back and fired off a shot that Lloris saved onto the post, only for Dzeko to stroke in the rebound on 53 minutes.

However, Spurs pulled one back shortly before the hour with Etienne Capoue spinning in the box and firing home, in off the outstretched arm of Fernandinho.

Any chance of an unlikely comeback was snuffed out when Jovetic curled the ball into the bottom left corner via a deflection from Vlad Chiriches on 77 minutes. Vincent Kompany then capped off the victory a minute from time by scrambling the ball home when Dzeko's shot dropped kindly into his path.

JAW SURGERY GONE WRONG

                                 BEFORE                                                           AFTER

A South Korean woman has been accused of 'ruining her face' after 'before' and 'after' shots of her plastic surgery procedure spread online. The unnamed woman, allegedly a reporter on a South Korean TV channel, has undergone jaw surgery in order to achieve the dainty heart-shaped face desired by many east Asian women.

South Koreans currently have more plastic surgery than in any other country according to recent figures, with the craze particularly popular among 19 to 49-year-olds.

The result of the procedure is an unusually pointed chin, and the reactions on a Japanese online forum did not hold back.
