(VIDEO) AMAZING OZIL SCORES ONE MAKES ONE AS ARSENAL BEAT NAPOLI 2-0

Mesut Ozil produced a Champions League masterclass to make Arsenal's Group of Death look like a walk in the park.

Ozil produced a stunning performance, scoring one, making another and, even more importantly, making Arsenal believe again. They hit heights in the first half not seen since the Invincibles era as their brilliant midfield movement, passing and style completely overwhelmed Rafa Benitez's Napoli.

Benitez had claimed he was building a team to sit up and make the world take notice but Arsene Wenger's men dismantled them with a breathtaking exhibition.

INSURGENCY IN THE NORTH - NO HOPE YET

The dreaded Islamic Sect, BOKO HARAM, have killed schoolchildren, fellow Muslims, college students, and drivers on the road in the past four months despite the state of emergency declared by the Federal Government in 4 Northern States.

What exactly is Nigeria's strategy now?

In the dead of night, around 30 gunmen in pickup trucks and motorbikes sped onto the grounds of a college in northeast Nigeria. They headed into the male dormitories and opened fire.

At least 41 students were killed when the suspected Boko Haram Islamists attacked the Yobe State College of Agriculture, in a rural area 30 miles south of the state capital Damaturu. They killed students in their sleep. Others were assembled in groups outside before they were shot dead. Some fled into the darkness and were cut down by gunfire. The surviving 1,000 students left the college in terror.

For the last four months, the Nigerian Army has concentrated military operations against Boko Haram. But the attacks by the rebel group show few signs of abating, and the extreme cruelty and violence aimed at vulnerable civilians is on the rise, raising new questions about how effective the government strategy is.

RESIDENT DOCTORS DECLARE INDEFINITE NATIONWIDE STRIKE

Addressing a news conference in Kano, the association’s National President,  Dr Jibril Abdullahi threatened that all state hospitals would be shut down if the Enugu State Teaching Hospital did not implement the consolidated medical salary structure within 21 days.

A PRESIDENT'S DILEMMA

As he spoke at a dinner early last month, it was clear that Tony Anenih, chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was determined to ‘fix’ the issues generating bad blood and acrimony within the party.

Known widely now as ‘Mr. Fix-It’, because he is believed to have the uncanny ability to provide solution to every political problem under the sun, Anenih gave President Goodluck Jonathan a piece of advice: He asked Jonathan to reveal his intention in respect of the 2015 presidential election.

“I will appeal to our leader, the President of this country, that at the end of September or as we enter October, we should not tell anybody that the time is not right. I think the time is right. It is good that we tell our people where we are going to; what our journey will be like.” With this seemingly harmless admonition, Anenih had placed a clumsy finger on the festering sore of his party, Nigeria’s ruling party since the return of democracy in 1999.

JONATHAN HANDS OVER PHCN TO PRIVATE INVESTORS

President Jonathan handed ownership of the bulk of the state electricity company to private buyers on Monday, completing one of the final stages of a privatisation process meant to end decades of debilitating power shortages.

Despite holding the world’s ninth-largest gas reserves, Nigeria produces one-tenth the amount of electricity as South Africa, for a population three times the size.

The Power Holding Company of Nigeria keeps the lights on for only a few hours a day, forcing those who can afford it to rely on expensive diesel generators that burn up billions of dollars from Africa’s second-largest economy. Improvements could be felt in two to three years, experts say.

This time, a police in Onitsha was filmed demanding for 10k bribe over claims that there were discrepancies in the vehicle documents and chasis number of a car.
