BRUTAL RAPE OF 5-YR-OLD GIRL SPARKS PROTEST IN PAKISTAN

Anti-Rape Protesters

Rights campaigners staged protest rallies across Pakistan on Sunday against the rape of a five-year-old girl in the eastern city of Lahore whose condition was now relatively stable.

Police still have no clue who carried out the attack despite detaining several suspects and releasing most of them after questioning, a law enforcement official said. Police said the child was found outside a Lahore hospital at around 8:00 pm on Friday, a day after she went missing from a low-income neighbourhood in the city. Her condition is relatively stable but still she is in the intensive care unit,” doctor Farzand Ali, medical superintendent at the Services Hospital, told AFP.

Senior police officer Zulfiqar Hameed said investigators had questioned several suspects but had yet to arrest anyone. “We are investigating and we hope steady progress (is being made) but no one has yet been identified nor anyone formally arrested,” Hameed told AFP.

Doctors earlier said the child was raped several times.

NIGERIA: TO BREAK OR NOT TO BREAK

Article by the outspoken and controversial  Politician - Fani Kayode.

Today a great protest  is taking place in the Catallan region of  Spain. According to the polls, 52 per cent of the people from that region wish to break off from Spain and to establish a new European sovereign state.
Later this year, the people of Scotland are having their own referendum to determine whether or not they will stay in the United Kingdom and, again, from the polls, it is very clear that the majority of Scots wish to have their own new sovereign state and that the Scottish Nationalist Party enjoys massive support. Nobody in either Spain or the United Kingdom has insulted those people or labelled them as ‘’ethnic jingoists’’ or ‘’primitive tribalists’’ for wanting to break off from the greater whole and establish their own country.

MAYWEATHER'S N6.6BILLION ($41M) WIN - BIGGEST IN BOXING HISTORY

I am tempted to pick my boxing gloves and start practicing again. How can a man earn the total budget of some countries in less than 2 hours of a boxing fight.... N6.6bn is a lot of money folks.

Dear Parents, let your children express themselves and improve their inherent skills. You know what I mean... *Smiles*

Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather stretched his unbeaten string to 45 straight fights with a 12-round majority decision over Mexican champ Saul Alvarez on Saturday.

The 36-year-old, who earned the biggest purse in boxing history at $41-million, managed to win the showdown between the two undefeated fighters and wrest Alvarez's World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association super welterweight belts.

"It is about skills," Mayweather said. "I came out tonight and showed my skills.

"I just took my time and took the opportunities when I got them. I can't say this is my best performance."

BODO COMMUNITY REJECTS SHELL'S N7.5B COMPENSATION

Call them greedy people and I'll say it's just your personal opinion. The people of Bodo in Rivers State  certainly know the extent of damage the oil spillage of 2008 caused and so will not settle for a partly sum of money as compensation.

IN SEARCH OF A REFRESHING NIGERIA - DELE MOMODU

I stumbled on this piece by the publisher of Ovations Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, and I'm sure you'll have no regrets reading it. Enjoy it........

Fellow Nigerians, I’m happy to send you this letter from Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, where I’m attending the wedding of a young Nigerian journalist, Jide Agbeniyi and his Zimbabwean colleague and partner, Miss Josey Mahachi, the beautiful presenter of the popular Click Africa Show on Africa Magic. This piece was inspired by the manner of greetings I discovered here: “A refreshing noon or a refreshing evening to you”, are the commonest ways of salutation in this tranquil country. It is almost a mantra as everyone I met greeted me thus and it sounded so sonorous and genuinely welcoming that it then occurred to me that what human beings require in essence to enjoy life to the fullest is a refreshing existence. This is what has eluded most societies that are in deep turmoil such as ours.

MISS UZBEKISTAN IS AN IMPOSTOR - NO SUCH CONTEST WAS HELD IN THE MUSLIM COUNTRY

Rakhima Ganieva(18) claims to be Miss Uzbekistan 2013 hence eligible to contest in the 2013 Miss World Finals. Authorities in Uzbekistan deny ever holding any such beauty competition and Uzbek media have been unable to find out who she is. She also claim to be in a University which has no record of her at all.

Rakhima is pretty, sporty, loves to travel, has musical talent and has brains to boot (she says she likes to read Chekhov, Dostoevsky and Tolstoy). And after she’s competed at the Miss World final in Indonesia later this month, 18-year-old Rakhima Ganieva wants to graduate from university and become a lawyer.

But there is a glaring omission from her perfect CV – Uzbekistan has no idea who she is. The predominantly Muslim country doesn’t even hold a Miss Uzbekistan contest.

FANTASTIC DEBUT FOR OZIL AS ARSENAL BEAT SUNDERLAND (3-1)

Mesut Ozil marked his Gunners’ debut with a performance of singular brilliance and superb vision and the German international midfielder will definitely justify the club record £42million transfer fee that took him from Real Madrid on deadline day.

Like the team, he had an outstanding first half and dropped physically in the second.’ Theo Walcott should have gorged himself with a feast of first-half goals principally provided by Ozil’s service. Kieren Westwood denied him with two great point-blank saves in the 15th and 28th minutes and was off target with a  close-range header in the 43rd minute from Jack Wilshere’s cross.By this time, the German had announced his arrival by setting up Arsenal’s 11th-minute opener with skills that underlined his polished individuality.

US AND RUSSIA IN LANDMARK DEAL ON SYRIA

The drumbell of war over Syria's possession and use of chemical weapon has finally faded as the main gladiators; US and Russia have both agreed to disarm the Assad led government.

Both countries have agreed on an ambitious plan to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons by the middle of next year and left the door open to sanctions if Damascus failed to comply.

The landmark deal on Saturday was hailed by the West, but rejected by rebels who warn that it would not halt the bloodshed in the conflict which has killed more than 110,000 people and displaced millions in two and a half years.
