HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST "BAMIDELE ATURU" DIES AT 49.

A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, is dead. A source close to him said the vibrant legal mind died of high blood pressure on Wednesday. He was age 49.

Aturu, who was reportedly rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja in the early hours of Wednesday, was confirmed dead by medical personnel later in the day.

The late Aturu obtained a first degree in Law from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. Until his death, he was the Principal of Bamidele Aturu and Company in Lagos.

Twin schoolgirls who followed their jihadi brother to Syria were hard-working students who hoped to train as doctors. Yilmaz, a Dutch national who has been in Syria for two years, told Sky News: ‘It’s extremely easy to get here. People go on holiday ... they end up in Syria.’   The twins’ parents raised the alarm last month, after finding the girls’ beds empty and their passports and clothes missing.

30 MORE WOMEN AND CHILDREN ESCAPE FROM BOKO HARAM'S DEN.

A mere three days after 63 women and children reportedly escaped from Sambisa Forest, the base of the deadly Islamist sect, Boko Haram, another 30 women and children have also escaped. A senior military officer gave a correspondent of SaharaReporters exclusive information about the latest escape. 

The officer revealed that the escapees were mostly from Borno State and were abducted in a series of attacks by the Islamist sect. He stated that he was not in a position to comment on whether the escapees included some of the schoolgirls abducted by the Islamist terrorist group in a daring operation on April 14 that shocked the world and created global protests for the girls’ return or rescue.

The officer said the latest batch of women and children who escaped from their abductors appeared in Madagali local government area of Adamawa State after wandering through forests for days. The location where the escapees showed up is a border area between Adamawa and Borno States.

POLICE ARREST PASTOR WHO IMPREGNATES MARRIED WOMEN AND YOUNG GIRLS IN THE NAME OF GOD.

The Police in Nsukka, Enugu State, recently, arrested a 53-year-old man who claims to be the Pastor of Ministry of the Holy Trinity in Umudikwere community whom they alleged specializes in impregnating married women and young girls in his ministry according to Vanguard.

Police sources alleged that the Pastor identified as Timothy Ngwu, the General Overseer of  Ministry, sexually abuse female members of the ministry and claim that the Holy Spirit directs him to do so in the name of God.

Stephen Keshi has reportedly demanded a significant salary hike to sign a new contract to remain as Nigeria coach.

According to africanfootball.com on Tuesday, Keshi, who announced last week that his contract with   the Nigeria Football Federation had expired after the Super Eagles crashed out of the World Cup following their 2-0 defeat by France, told President Goodluck Jonathan that he will sign a new deal if the NFF agrees to pay him N10m a month. The former Nigeria captain received N5m a month in his initial contract.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, Tolani stated that he hacked his father, a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria to death, because he angered him.

Tolani said his father provoked him by beating him with a stick; and that he needed no help from Nigerians.

“There is no way Nigerians can help me. I am going to face my judgement. I am meant to pay for what I have done,” he said. “It is not as if I am ready, it is something that is inevitable – something that is going to happen; I am just waiting for it.”

The Police Commissioner, Kudu Nma, who disclosed this to journalists in Gombe, the State Capital, noted that the bombers were targeting graduating students of the school – who were sitting for their final NECO Mathematics examination.

A crooked book-keeper at a leading real estate firm who plundered £2m from her bosses to launch her own property empire in Zambia has been jailed for four years.

Mirriam Clark, 47, blew the cash on first class flights to Africa and private school education for her children.

She bought properties in her native Zambia and used stolen funds to maintain five homes she owned across England and Wales, Southwark Crown Court heard today.

Clark was working for Dowley Turner Real Estate (DTRE) from their luxury offices on London’s Bond Street at the time of the thefts.

Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend.  Prior to the operation, Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks.

About 12 soldiers including a colonel, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, three policemen and four civilians were feared killed at the weekend when about 200 terrorists operating in many Toyota Hilux vehicles attacked Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The structure housing the Divisional Police Headquarters in the area, markets, houses and vehicles were also destroyed during the encounter between the terrorists and the armed forces.

No fewer than 50 of the terrorists were, however, said to have been killed when ground troops and Air Force fighter jets engaged the attackers, sources said.

The Adamawa State government yesterday declared today Monday July 7 and Tuesday July 8 as work-free days according to DailyTrust.

This is coming a day to the inauguration of the seven-man panel set up by the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ambrose Mamadi, to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngillari. Justice Mamadi’s tenure, will expire tomorrow Tuesday.

“Governor Murtala Nyako has approved Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th of July, 2014 as work-free days in Adamawa State. This is to enable the people reflect on the current happenings in the country and use the period to offer special prayers for peace in the state. The period is also to enable Adamawa workers reflect on current challenges,” the statement said.

63 WOMEN ESCAPE FROM THE CLAWS OF BOKO HARAM IN BORNO.

Sixty-three women abducted by the Boko Haram Islamic sect from Kummabza village in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State two weeks ago have escaped from their kidnappers, security sources said on Sunday.

The women, the security sources said, had reunited with their families. Some witnesses said that their unexpected freedom was facilitated when the insurgents left them in the camp to embark on an operation where they attacked military formations on Friday.

This, the sources said, presented the women with an opportunity to flee from their abductors.

The board had delayed the release of the movie since April, citing current security situation in Nigeria and claiming the movie, which is based on a novel of same name on the Nigerian civil war, could incite violence.
