CAMEROONIAN ARMY KILLS 60 BOKO HARAM MEMBERS AS 100 PERISH IN BORNO VILLAGE ATTACK.

More than 100 persons were killed, yesterday, in a communal clash involving three border communities in Gwoza Local Government Council of Borno State. Members of Attagara, Aghapalwa and Gwoshe border communities were said to have taken up arms against one another. It, however, turned out to be a religious war between Christians and Muslims.

It will be recalled that no fewer than nine Christian worshippers were said to have been killed last Sunday, by Islamic militants during a Sunday service in Attagara village, leaving many others critically injured. According to reports, the youths in a spontaneous reprisal attack mobilized themselves and killed 37 of them.

However, following the reprisal attacks, sources said, some Muslim youths believed that the Christian youths killed other Muslims rather than Boko Haram members, who were responsible for the death of the nine Christian worshippers as well as the burning of churches in Attagara Village.

FG IS OWING NATIONAL CONFAB DELEGATES 5 WEEKS ALLOWANCES.

Numerous delegates at the ongoing National Conference in Abuja say their activities are gradually grinding to a halt because the Federal Government had failed to pay their allowances. Some of the delegates said they had been thrown out of their hotels because, with their allowances unpaid, they could not afford to pay their lodging bills.

A delegate who asked for anonymity stated that he had packed out of his hotel room. “I have not been paid, so where will I find the money to pay the hotel?” the delegate stated. He added that he had moved into a friend’s apartment in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

GREED & SELF CENTREDNESS IN LEADERSHIP - THE AKPABIO EXAMPLE.

There is a growing penchant for greed and self-centredness in leadership as Nigeria enters her 16th year of unbroken democratic odyssey.

This acquisitive tendency of high profile public officials is demonstrated in the new pension bill passed last week by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. Known as the Akwa Ibom State Governors and Deputy Governors Pension Law 2014, it provides a total of about N200 million annually, for life, as pension and gratuity for a former governor and his spouse. It also provides generous pension and gratuity for past deputy governors and their spouses for life.

Even at face value, the new law, which also covers all elected former governors of Akwa Ibom origin who served in the old Cross River State, is highly irresponsible. It is an anti-people law that should be discarded.

The Commissioner of Police in Abuja, Joseph Mbu, on Monday said protests demanding the rescue of over 250 girls kidnapped in Chibok, Borno State, pose a serious security threat.

Theirs was a life bound by fate and faith. First, they were all final year medical laboratory science students of the University of Jos. Second, they were all Christians. Third, their stories are that of shattered dreams and unfulfilled ambition.

For the seven, Tuesday, May 20 might have started like any other. They had all left their homes and hostels, as they had done for five years. They had played, read and studied together.
