HORRIBLE - THE DIRTY HALLS OF "UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN".

I stumbled on some disgusting pictures of our dear "UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN" earlier today but my confession is that "I AM NOT SURPRISED AT ALL".

Simply put, the state of the residential halls haven't changed since I concluded my M.Sc programme in  2009. I wonder how the various hall managements discharge their functions. Find below some of the pictures captured by an ex student of the uni who probably went visiting....

WHEN POLY IBADAN STUDENTS WENT ON RAMPAGE.................

Students of the Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Tuesday, protested against the strike embarked upon by their lecturers since December 2013, which has led to the collapse of academic activities in the institution.

The students marched around the Mokola area of the city, disrupting early morning flow of traffic. Heavy police presence was visible, which, obviously, prevented the incident from going berserk. The students later hijacked four of the state-owned public transport buses, tagged, Ajumose Shuttle, sending passengers out of them and ordering the drivers to drive them back to the campus after more than one hour of demonstration.

Some of the students, who did not give their names, told our correspondent that the state government was insensitive towards their plight by not negotiating with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics. “We have not gone to the classrooms since December because our lecturers are on strike. What we do not understand is how long we will be at home,” said a female student of Mass Communication.

ANICHEBE RESCUES WEST BROM AGAINTS CHELSEA... ARSENAL & MAN,CITY WILL BE GRATEFUL TO HIM.

Victor Anichebe grabbed a late equaliser for West Brom on a night when Jose Mourinho's Chelsea barely looked like potential Premier League champions.

Chelsea were poised to move four points clear at the top of the table after defender Branislav Ivanovic's injury-time strike in the first half at The Hawthorns.

But substitute Anichebe flicked home his third goal of the season in the 87th minute to make it 1-1 and thwart the Blues, who had lost on their last two visits to this part of the West Midlands.

After all the hype in the wake of their stunning win at Manchester City and the Eden Hazard-inspired thumping of Newcastle on Saturday, Mourinho's side were off the boil against the Baggies. Perhaps the Blues boss does have a point, after all, that his side are the "little horses" in this year's championship race, as Arsenal and City will have the chance to take over at the summit on Wednesday.

Only Willian can claim to have had an impressive game. It was he who primarily pulled the strings and who crucially set up the only goal of the first half just as Albion were on the brink of heading into the interval with a 0-0 scoreline. From Willian's corner into the near post, centre-back David Luiz was left unmarked to flick the ball on with his right foot to the far post, where Ivanovic slotted home from three yards.

After the break, Willian had a further three driven efforts, all of which were well saved by home goalkeeper Ben Foster. At least the home side showed greater attacking intent in the second period as James Morrison fired wide, Thievy Bifouma flashed a shot through the six-yard box and skipper Chris Brunt hammered a half -volley beyond the left-hand post.

Anichebe, on for Bifouma in the 73rd minute, glanced home Saido Berahino's cross three minutes from time to lift Albion back out of the relegation zone. Come the conclusion it was a fair result, and all credit to the home side, who pressed and harried admirably throughout, even if they failed to record a shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

It has been the desire of new head coach Pepe Mel to see his players give the opposition no respite, and Chelsea were rarely allowed time on the ball at any stage. That was underlined by the minimal number of chances that came their way during the opening half prior to Ivanovic's effort.

The key ones fell Willian's way as he first saw a fierce 27th-minute drive flash just over the angle of bar and post. Three minutes from the break, he picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area before chesting it down and sending a half-volley dipping over the goal. Then came Ivanovic's goal  a blow for Albion, although they had conjured just one chance of note in the first period. That came as Morgan Amalfitano, Berahino and Bifouma -- making his first start since his recent loan move from Espanyol -- combined to tee up Brunt for a searing shot that was two yards wide.

The first period was most notable for the boos that rang in the ears of Ramires playing in place of Frank Lampard in the only change to the Chelsea team that beat Newcastle. Ramires was the player who contentiously earned Chelsea a penalty in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in October, when Albion were seconds away from a shock victory.

The Albion fans certainly had not forgotten that moment, as his every touch was greeted with jeers and catcalls. After the break, Willian came closest to extending Chelsea's lead but found Foster in fine form.

And as the half wore on the home side finally found some impetus up front and began to create their opportunities before Anichebe came up trumps to send the home fans into raptures. Just nine days ago, Anichebe had again come off the bench to salvage a point for Albion in a 1-1 home draw with Liverpool.

GOVERNOR SULLIVAN CHIME OF ENUGU FLOWN OUT OF THE COUNTRY AGAIN FOR CANCER TREATMENT

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has been flown overseas over ill-health to enable him undergo a chemotherapy section over deteriorating cancer. It is speculated that  the governor would be away for at least 90 days .

When contacted on the issue Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, said that the Governor travelled overseas “as part of his routine medical checkup” but dismissed as ‘untrue’ speculations that he would spend up to three months there.

JONATHAN SACKED HIS "CHIEF OF STAFF" BECAUSE HE COULD NOT COPE WITH HIS CORRUPTION PROFILE

Reports has gathered that a huge dossier prepared on the activities of the erstwhile Chief of Staff of President Goodluck Jonathan, whom he fired today, revealed an extensive corruption profile.

But the former Deputy Governor of Edo State is unlikely to be asked to answer to any of them because Mr. Jonathan does not want to open a Pandora’s Box involving persons at the highest levels of his administration, analysts have told SaharaReporters.

Mr. Oghiadomhe’s bag of tricks includes Kerosene subsidy fraud at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to the magnitude of millions of dollars with a controversial businessman, Jide Omokore, owner of oil companies Atlantic Energy Limited and Seven Energy.

TRAIN CHOPS OFF PASSENGER'S HAND IN LAGOS

Tragedy struck in Lagos, yesterday, when a passenger hanging on a train coach had his hand chopped off by the moving train.

According to eye witnesses, the incident occurred at Oshodi around 9 a.m. when the victim, who was simply identified as Ernest, allegedly fell from the moving train which had a hitch in movement.

An eye witness, Mr Olu Atoyebi, said Ernest fell from the moving train while his hand was stuck in between  the coaches resulting to the hand being chopped off. His shout for help was said to have attracted sympathisers who rushed to the scene to offer assistance. Ernest who was said to be conscious at that time, asked the sympathisers to reach out for his phone and invite his relations to take him to the hospital.

Atoyebi blamed the victim for the tragedy, saying there have been campaigns by the government against such act. ‘’The government had been campaigning against hanging on the coach but many passengers are adamant and they will have themselves to blame in case of eventuality,’’ he said.

HENRY OKAH'S FAILED PRISON BREAK IN SOUTH AFRICA

Henry Okah, the Nigerian sentenced in South Africa to 24 years on terrorism charges, has been caught in a failed jail break attempt, prison authorities said Monday.

“I can confirm that Okah is one of the five inmates that attempted to escape and whose efforts were foiled,” Manelisi Wolela, spokesman for South Africa’s department of correctional services, said.

He did not give details of the attempted escape from Leeukop prison in northern Johannesburg that is said to have taken place in January.

NEW PARAMILITARY FORCE RAISES SUSPICION

For Lagos residents who live or have their offices close to the old toll gate in the city, the presence of some young men and ladies, dressed in black T-shirts and black trousers, have become a familiar sight. Holding paramilitary parade almost on a daily basis has become a norm to them.

But who are these people? This is the question now bothering the minds of many people.

Some residents have described them as the Federal Road Maintenance Agency Task Force. But in a swift reaction to a news report, FERMA South West 2 Coordinator, Mr. Oladipo Fagbamila, said the agency has no link with the task force.

POLICE ARE WRONG ON PERMIT FOR RALLIES

HAS the rule of law been suspended in Nigeria? No. Yet, the rampant disregard for the laws of the land in Rivers State by the former Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu, points to the law of the jungle rather than the rule of law. Mbu, who had a running battle with Governor Rotimi Amaechi for most of 2013, took impunity to an alarming level just before he was redeployed last week after he announced a ban on rallies in the state, citing an “increase in political tension.” He was wrong.

Disquietingly, there seems to be a pattern to this police encroachment on the Executive’s territory. A week before Mbu’s clearly illegal and disdainful order, some senior police officers insisted that Nigerians must secure permits from the force before holding rallies. Among them is Tambari Muhammad Yabo, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police. Yabo prefers to rely on a strange Appeal Court ruling from Ilorin, Kwara State. The court inexplicably countermanded an earlier verdict by the Court of Appeal, Abuja that invalidated the Public Order Act (CAP P42) of 1990 Laws of the Federation. “As a police officer, I’ve the right to choose between the two judgements,” he cheekily said. It is obvious that the police, who have become a political instrument – instead of being the people’s police – are central in the unfolding saga. Who will cut them to size and save our democracy from anarchy?

The officials, who pleaded anonymity, gave the blame in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

According to them, most DISCOs have been trapped in poor service delivery by the TCN which has signifi cantly reduced power supply to consumers. They alleged that the situation had drastically reduced the revenue base of the DISCOs as well as sabotaging their supply capacities to end users.
