LAGOS - 25 SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN COMA DUE TO GAS POISONING


About 25 students of Ogba Junior Secondary School, Lagos, yesterday, went into coma after inhaling a chemical waste allegedly discharged into drainage by a company, Bizcircuit Photo Laboratory, located a few metres from the school premises.

According to reports, the gas enveloped the school premises at noon.

OVERZEALOUS NAVAL RATINGS BEATS TEACHER TO A PULP

Panic gripped students and civilian employees of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, on Wednesday when six Naval operatives descended on a teacher in the school and beat him to a pulp over a minor disagreement.

The victim, Rashid Ibrahim, who has been teaching Food and Nutrition in the school in the past 13 years, was said to have almost lost his life during the assault.

The Nigeria Police has described the photograph, which showed a senior police officer in the act of fondling the breast of an unknown lady, as fake. It said the picture, which went viral on the Internet, was deliberately fabricated with the aid of Adobe Photoshop technology to mislead the public.

The alleged amorous scene, the police authorities claimed, did not take place and the officer had nothing to do with the woman.

KOLAPO LAWSON STEPS DOWN AS ECOBANK CHAIRMAN UNCEREMONIOUSLY


Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, ETI, yesterday, said its chairman, Mr. Kolapo Lawson, will step aside from the bank with immediate effect, while he is expected to retire from the Board of Directors by December 31, 2013.

This was even as the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, said its investigation into the alleged breach of corporate governance in the bank is still ongoing, despite the stepping down of Lawson.

Despite the fact that the minister was visibly missing at the hearing, the Nigeria Customs Service, NSC, FirstBank PLc and Coscharis made presentations on their level of involvement in the purchase of the cars.

PENSIONER(79) WHO BEAT WIFE(82) TO DEATH WILL SPEND 5-YEARS IN JAIL


A pensioner who beat his wife to death with his walking stick after a row about the heating has been jailed for five years.

Douglas Bailey, 79, was obsessed with money, even though he had tens of thousands of pounds in savings. 

He clubbed his 82-year-old wife Hazel 22 times around the head and neck and punched her so hard her false teeth fell out.

The police in Ogun State on Tuesday arrested an officer of the Ogun State Vigilance Service, Liasu Oyedele, over the alleged rape of a female National Diploma 1 Banking and Finance student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
