Two suspected female suicide bombers attacked a motorpark and Pompomari ward simultaneously in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, killing seven with over 26 others injured.
Sources said, one of the suicide bombers, wearing a veil and pretending to be passenger, detonated her bomb at about 9:45am when security men manning the park had not commenced routine check of people entering the park.
Meanwhile, the scene of the explosion has been condoned off by security men as as corpses and the enjured were taken to Sani Abacha Specialist hospital.
In his reaction, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam expressed shock at the unfortunate incident, just as he expressed his condolences to victims of the suicide bombing.
In a statement by the Director of Press Affairs to the governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego said, “Once again, His Excellency Governor Gaidam is heartbroken. Once again, he mourns with the families of victims of these callous, senseless and condemnable attacks.
“At this time of so much sadness, therefore, His Excellency Governor Gaidam expresses his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of victims. He prays Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant repose to the souls of those who died and quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.
“Already, the Governor has directed that injured victims be given quick and free treatment at the Sani Abatcha Specialist Hospital, where they have been taken for medical care.
“And in line with the governor’s directive, Hospital and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) officials are at this time doing everything necessary to provide the assistance and support that the victims need.
“His Excellency Governor Gaidam urges people across Yobe State to continue in the traditions of vigilance, prayers and support to security agencies as they push on with their effort to rid our State of the unspeakable violence that has caused so much pain and death”. The statement said.
