CONTROVERSY TRAILS THE DEATH OF TWO LAWYERS IN DELTA STATE.

The murder of two lawyers, H. E. Eguno Dafiaghor and Samuel Ekuwangi by gunmen along Ozoro Asaba Expressway, Delta State, last Thursday, has generated fresh controversy in the state.

Dafiaghor, the principal partner of Whytfort Jurisconsult Law Firm at Ovwian, and Ekuwangi, his junior in chamber, were on their way to High Court, Ozoro, for a ruling when they were assassinated.

There was an unconfirmed report, yesterday, that the legal practitioners were killed by security agents, while a source said the killers were gunmen dressed in mobile police uniform.

National coordinator of the Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence, FJHD, Delta State, Oghenejabor Ikimi, told Vanguard, “there are many versions to the murder.

“Some persons say the duo were murdered by gunmen dressed in mobile police uniform. What is clear to me in the above saga is that they were assassinated.

“I wonder why some persons would offer to kill an innocent lawyer performing his professional duties. It is senseless, barbaric and satanic.

“If the theory that they were murdered as a result of the high profile case they were handling at the High Court, Ozoro, is anything to go by, I believe that eliminating them was senseless.

“Common sense would have dictated that at their deaths, another lawyer could possibly be briefed to take over the case.”
