ATIKU WILL COME BACK BEGGING - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has finally reacted to the defection of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to All Progressives Congress, APC, saying he’s on a voyage and will come back to PDP begging as was the case in the past.

The party’s Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus said this at the PDP National Woman Leader’s strategic consultative workshop with women in media and communication, with the theme “The Role of Media in Promoting Women’s participation in politics,” held yesterday at the party national secretariat.

Secondus said: “The good thing is that the PDP is so consistent and constant that when they leave, they go on a voyage and they come back and we receive them.

“I can tell you that they will go and come back and we are waiting for Atiku to go on this voyage and to come back.

“He has done it before, this is not the first time and we will welcome him back when he comes because APC cannot win election, they are not firmly rooted.’’

He expressed optimism that he PDP would emerge victorious in 2015 general elections, adding: “We have the statistics, we have the numbers, we have the population, we will win the election.

“Our party is the strongest, others are struggling. APC is just starting registration, something we did 13 years ago. It just started and cannot meet us. What APC is doing is party gymnastic.”

Secondus stressed that women are free to contest for President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives or any other elective positions, adding that it is time for women to be counted and not play the background.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, said it is yet to take a decision on the defection of Atiku to the APC.

In a press statement signed by its Niger State chairman, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Mohammed in Minna, PDM said the party has been inundated with calls over the defection of the former Vice President, but advised party faithful to remain calm, saying that the party at the national level was yet to take a decision on the defection.

Mohammed said that the clarification was necessary in view of the speculation arising from the decision of Atiku, but added that the PDM has high regard for the decision of Atiku to decamp to the APC from the ruling PDP.

While wishing the Turakin Adamawa the best in his new party, the PDM, however urged its members to remains united and focused in the pursuit of its mandate built around ideas and ideals of salvaging the country.
