BUHARI'S DAUGHTER CALLED TO BAR AS 80 YEAR OLD PA ENEBELI MAKES HISTORY.

Octogenarian Pius Chuka Enebeli made history yesterday as the oldest person to be called to Bar in Nigeria.

Pa Enebeli was called to the Bar with the daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Halima and 2,217 others.

The ceremony was witnessed by the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The Director-General, Nigeria Law School, Olanrewaju Onadeko, presented the candidates to the Body of Benchers under the chairmanship of Chief Bandele  Aiku(SAN).

Onadeko said: “Let me congratulate one of the new wigs today, who is making history in his right, by being the oldest new wig ever produced by the Nigeria Law School. He is 80 years old and we wish him a successful career at the Bar.”

The President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA),  Augustine  Alegeh (SAN), who stood in for the chairman, Council of Legal  Education (CLE), said the students ‘’have successfully completed their training and passed the Bar examinations conducted by the Council of the Legal Education and are ready for presentation to the Body of Chambers for the Call to the Bar.”

Onadeko said: “Their performance at the examinations has a success rate of 73 per cent. Mr chairman, distinguished Benchers; I made a call in my address at the October 2015 Call To Bar ceremonies, for a form of mandatory pupilage for a new entrant into the legal profession. The aim is not to constrain or elongate the formal legal training of new lawyers.  It is necessary to grant them requisite exposure to a period of hands-on apprenticeship in law establishments.”

He complained about the violation of admission quota by some faculties of law, adding: ‘’The extent of violation has been profound in some cases. Some faculties of law have also had their accreditation withdrawn on this score, because it disrupts the projection of the Nigeria Law School in the short and long run.”
