(VIDEO) How Real Madrid destroyed Bayern Munich in Germany.

Real Madrid simply turned on style at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night as they romped to a 0-4 win over Bayern Munich to secure their place in the finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League.

Two goals each from Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo was more than enough to see Madrid stay in the run for the coveted European football silverware while it meant the end of the road for defending champions Bayern.

Gareth Bale had the first real chance of the game after Manuel Neuer came off his line to head the ball away, but failed to clear the Welshman, but his finish went well high.

How Jonathan, His Government And The Rest of Us Have Failed Abducted Schoolgirls. #BringBackOurGirls.

There is a limit to impunity, beyond which a country can no longer call itself a country with any shred of pride. We passed that mark on that grim Monday when members of the hideous Boko Haram sect stormed Government Secondary School Chibok, Maiduguri, and ran off with over 250 students to the Sambisa forest.

The girls, as Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, said at the Book Festival in Port Harcourt Wednesday, are, in all probability, now used as sex slaves.

Perhaps there are worse things than this. Perhaps some depraved minds could yet come up with a monstrosity to top one in which girls preparing for their GCE are seized from their school and dragged through forests to be raped by murderers.  The nightmarish horror of it is just too distasteful to imagine.

(PHOTOS) Aggrieved Chibok Women Storm Abuja, Protest At National Assembly. #BringBackOurGirls

Aggrieved mothers and other indigenes of Chibok, Borno State, today in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, staged a protest to demand the immediate rescue or release of the more than 200 secondary school girls abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on April 14.

The protesters, most of them members of the Kibaku Development Association, Chibok, converged at Eagle Square in Nigeria’s capital. From there, they marched to the National Assembly to submit a protest letter. The women were led into the premises of the national legislature by a group of senior female police officers.

The Death Of Col. Kabiru Salisu and Sundry Matters - A.S.M Jimoh

Nigeria has become a place where a day is not complete unless one or more tragic event happens. It is either a very old man or a police officer rapes a minor; a large amount of money is missing from the government coffer; armed robbers freely robbed a bank; a policeman or an NSCD corps helps blow an oil pipeline. It could also be that some students sleeping in their dormitories are killed; some over 200 girls are kidnapped from a school; MEND blows up and shuts down an oil facility; kidnappers take hostages; soldiers or policemen threaten hapless citizens with their weapons; a baby factory is discovered; human remains found in a forest or in buildings and the list goes on. Even if all of these combined happen in a day, the day is still not complete in Nigeria until the deviant Boko Haram or elusive Fulani herdsmen massacre a number of people across the land. This is the Nigeria of today.

The frequency with which these horrific events happen makes us forget in quick succession the terror culture pervading our land. The fact that the shock of the next event always surpasses the previous one is gradually making us to heed President Jonathan’s advice that terror has come to stay and we should live with it. It has numbed our emotion to horror. The regularity of occurrence and the incompetence of a political class aided by the docility of the citizens does not even allow us to probe into the cause of events.

Murtala Nyako should be impeached - Femi Aribisala.

VIce-Admiral Murtala Nyako is the Governor of Adamawa State. He was once Governor of Niger State. He was formerly Chief of Naval Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was also formerly Deputy Chief of Defense Staff. All this suggests he is a man with enough pedigree to occupy the highest echelons of government in Nigeria. However, his memo to the Northern States Governors’ Forum of April 16, 2014 and his other recent public pronouncements now indicate otherwise. Going by these, Nyako is no longer fit to be governor of Adamawa State, or any state in Nigeria for that matter.

Nyako’s diatribe
In his memo, Nyako redefined Nigeria, creating a new country out of it which he referred to as “the North.” Therefore, he addressed his broadside to “Fellow Governors and Citizens of the North.” Nyako insists: “Northern Nigeria is on its own.” But we may well ask the governor when the North became a country by itself. Having conferred statehood on the North, Nyako asks his Northern compatriots: “should we not… consider a declaration of Northern Nigerian Amnesty to the culprits (of the Northern insurgency) and consequently squarely address all other matters connected with the Amnesty and Boko-Haram syndrome?”

ARMED FORCES SET TO EMBARK ON MASSIVE RECRUITMENT TO FIGHT TERRORISM...............

The Federal Government has given  the armed forces and other security agencies the nod  to embark on mass recruitment to fight terrorism.

According to PUNCH, the directive was to give fillip to the war against terrorism in the country.

It was also learnt that those who attended the expanded National Security Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday emphasised the need for the recruitment.

A highly placed military source said that   President  Goodluck Jonathan  issued the  directive for more recruitment into the army in March after the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Kenneth Minimah,  had briefed him about the operations of the army.

The source, who did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the  matter,  said   the army did not  begin   the recruitment immediately because of the need to expand training facilities in parts of the country. It was learnt that the army would commence  the recruitment in May 2014.

(VIDEO) LIVERPOOL 0 CHELSEA 2. TITLE RACE BLOWN OPEN PLUS THREE THINGS FROM THE CLASH.

Demba Ba's first-half goal and Willian's injury-time strike gave Chelsea a stunning 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Here are three things from their Premier League clash:

1. Chelsea take the crown off Liverpool's heads.
The temptation is to call Chelsea the "party poopers," but the significance of this win means they were much more than that. They were the men who arrived at a coronation intent on grabbing the crown before it could be placed on anyone else's head.

BACARY SAGNA SET TO QUIT ARSENAL AFTER CONTRACT RENEWAL BREAKDOWN.

Bacary Sagna is set to reject Arsenal’s final contract offer move that will spell the end of his eight-year stay at the club.

Sagna has already rejected two formal offers and manager Arsene Wenger confirmed on Friday the club have tabled their final attempt to keep him.

The last is understood to be for two years with an option for a further 12 months, but Sagna’s £100,000-a-week demand has not been met. Sagna, 31, has told friends he will not sign the deal, meaning he will leave after the FA Cup final against Hull on May 17.

The defender, a target for Manchester City, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, knows his next contract will be his last big one and feels he can earn more elsewhere.

Sagna has been infuriated by the club’s attitude, feeling he has not be rewarded for his loyalty.

AMAZING REVELATIONS ON BOKO HARAM AND THE SAMBISSA FOREST CAMPS. #BringBackOurGirls...

Some of the girls who escaped.
Many have berated the Nigeria Military over the shoddy handling of Boko Haram, afterall they are humans and not spirits. A report from TRENT claims that the Military refused to engage Boko Haran insurgents who kidnapped over 200 girls at a school in Borno in the deadly Sambissa forest claiming they were not given orders to attack the sect.

Read more below.....

Firstly, we would like to thank everyone for the support pouring in, in response to our calls for assistance and contributions towards the obligatory mission to free our 200 abducted daughters. The promises from so many blessed youth, to head to the conflict zone and join the effort to rescue our girls and sack the terrorists out of their comfortable camps, is beyond words. May the Almighty protect and reward you in the ways that He only can.

Nigerians and the world must know what the true situation in Sambisa and other forests in Borno is. It was in the media that the families who ventured in pursuit of their daughters turned back when they approached the terrorist camps. The media reported that what they saw, was “serious,” but they will not say it for security concerns. We are obligated to reveal what they saw.

Patience has finally run out at Old Trafford, with David Moyes sacked by the club. Eleven Premier League defeats, a failure to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 19 years and little sign of any serious progress meant the United board were compelled to act.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN PICTURED IN A JOYOUS MOOD IN KANO BARELY 24HRS AFTER OVER 85 PERISHED IN #ABUJABOMBBLAST.

At a time when the nation is mourning the unfortunate death of over 85 innocent Nigerians in the #AbujaBombBlast, the nation's President who visited the scene of the blast and the hospital where survivors were recovering still managed to attend a political rally in Kano barely 24hrs after the bomb blast.

Meanwhile, many of the abducted school girls in Borno are still missing...

It's a shame...

MOPOL ASSAULTS WOMAN IN LAGOS

A drunken police officer with the Mobile Police, or Mopol, Unit #20, in Lagos, who was later identified as Tafa Mohammed, was caught breaking the law.

A citizen video photographer captured officer Mohammed brutalizing two women with a hidden camera, filming this disturbing footage at a safe distance. This illegal action by the officer erupted when a street food vendor would not issue him fish to finish up his beer. The food vendor was said to have declined to sell fish alone, except to those buying food with it, a vendor policy that angered the policeman.

Mohammed, a mobile policeman, was reeking of alcohol, say eyewitnesses to this event. Mohammed took on a female customer who was buying food from the same vendor at the time he got there, and threw her into a nasty pond of putrid muddy water.

#ABUJABOMBBLAST AND PRESIDENT JONATHAN'S INSENSITIVE RALLY IN KANO

President Goodluck Jonathan made a mockery of his sympathy visit to the site of Monday’s devastating bombing at the Nyanya Motor Park, near Abuja, in which 75 innocent Nigerians died, while 254 others were injured, by attending a political rally in Kano, barely 24 hours after the horrendous incident. Jonathan led party chiefs to Kano where they received Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor, who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. His televised dance and backslapping while the dead were yet to be buried and with the fate of survivors still hanging in the balance were another blunder.  No wonder the President’s action has provoked national outrage.

But the Presidency says the public indignation is an attempt by politicians to score cheap political points. Labaran Maku, the Information Minister, says, “You will notice that whenever there is any significant story, something will just come negatively. So the purpose is to demoralise, disrupt government, society and to set people against each other and create paralysis…So if we are to say we will do nothing because of the strike, then it means that terrorists would have succeeded in putting a stall each time they strike on our country.” As he put it, going to Kano was a loud statement that terrorists will not stop this country from working.

#POLICERAPECASE - DPO AND TWO OTHERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED.

THE MILITARY LIED ABOUT THE RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED SCHOOL GIRLS AS MOST OF THE GIRLS ARE STILL MISSING.

Nigeria’s armed forces have formally issued a retraction to the unfolding story of the kidnapping of more than 100 female students in the country’s northeast Monday.

The statement, issued by Chris Olukolade, a Major General who also serves as Coordinator, and the Director of Defense Information, centers on a discrepancy of fact, and concerns a mis-quote from the School Principal whose students were abducted in the Monday siege. In an attempt to set the record straight, Olukolade’s statement reads as follows:

The controversy that has been generated around the efforts at securing the lives of the abducted students of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok is unfortunate. The ongoing frantic efforts of security forces along with vigilante groups including hunters working to locate and free the abducted students have continued to be keenly monitored at the Operation Centre of the Defense and Army Headquarters as regular progress reports are being received from troops on the ground.

BOKO HARAM ABDUCT ABOUT 200 SCHOOL GIRLS IN BORNO.

Scores of girls have been abducted in an attack on a school in north-east Nigeria, parents say.

Gunmen reportedly arrived at the school in Chibok, Borno state, late last night, and ordered the hostel's teenage residents on to lorries. Parents told the BBC's Hausa service that at least 200 girls had been abducted. The attackers are thought to be from the Islamist group, Boko Haram.

On Monday, bombings blamed on the group killed more than 70 people in Abuja.

Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is forbidden" in the local Hausa language, has been waging an armed campaign for an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.

WEEKEND OF BLOODSHED IN BORNO AS BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS MURDER ABOUT 60 PEOPLE.

Barely 48 hours after suspected Boko Haram terrorists massacred more than 200 persons including students who were writing their Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, in Borno, the insurgents, yesterday, continued their killing spree as they killed no fewer than 60 persons in Ngoshe and Kaigamari villages of Borno close to the border with Cameroon.

NORTH CAN SURVIVE WITHOUT CRUDE OIL REVENUE - LAMIDO OF ADAMAWA

A delegate to the  National Conference and the  Lamido of Adamawa,  Alhaji Muhammadu Mustapha, has said that the North can survive  economically without proceeds from petroleum resources.

The controversial monarch noted that but for the laziness on the part of the people of the region, the proceeds from agricultural produce would have made the region less dependent on oil.

He argued that while a litre of palm oil is sold for N300, the same measurement is sold for N97 per litre when it is petroleum.

2015 ELECTIONS - MUSLIM/MUSLIM TICKET - APC GOVERNORS SET FOR A SHOWDOWN WITH TINUBU & BUHARI - BY JIDE AJANI

There were very strong indications at the weekend that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governors who defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC, are ready to fully engage leaders of their new party, former military head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, and former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the growing suggestion that both men are plotting to contest as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2015  elections, Sunday Vanguard can reveal.

In addition, information pieced together in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, and Lagos, over the weekend by Sunday Vanguard suggests that the disquiet in the APC over who flies its banner in the 2015 presidential race may not be a mere rumour after all.

The plot to ensure that Buhari and Tinubu both emerge is  thickening.

By the same token, opposition to the scheme heightened at the weekend based on contacts with some  APC  governors.

The other leg of the twist to the emerging katakata in APC is the position of former President Olusegun Obasanjo who is said to favour the emergence of Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as the party’s presidential candidate.

CURBING RISING INCIDENCES OF CHILD ABUSE.

Recent news reports highlighting various cases of child abuse in the country call for a concerted effort to stem the tide of an evil and uncivilised trend. While an outright elimination may seem impossible, a reduction in the number of child abuse cases is achievable. But it will require the strict enforcement of the extant laws and the enactment of new ones, where necessary, to force habitual abusers of children to mend their criminal ways.

One of the child abusers who should be made to face the full weight of the law is a certain Joy Amodu. The 27-year-old security guard reportedly visited a most violent form of cruelty on her 10-year-old niece recently, for alleged bedwetting. After administering a severe beating to the child, reportedly kept in her custody by the father, she went ahead to rub some ointment with a severe burning sensation (known locally as Aboniki) into the little girl’s private parts and eyes, leading to her lapsing into a coma.

14-YR OLD CHILD- BRIDE KILLS HUSBAND AND THREE OTHERS IN KANO

WASILA
Child-bride, Wasila Umar, accused of killing her husband and three of his friends while injuring many others after she served them poisoned food, in Kano, says she regrets her action.

“Mine was a classical example of youthful exuberance; it dawned on me shortly after that it was a joke taken too far to resolve a forced marriage question”, Wasila, 14, said. The killings happened only 17 days after their marriage.

The suspect, in tears as she spoke at Bompai police headquarters, Kano, where she was being detained, added: “I have never enjoyed the opportunity of going to Islamic school or acquiring Western education. My father forced me into this mess by stubbornly forcing me into a relationship I was not prepared to live in “.

EXPERTS SAY NIGERIA IS UNDER THE THREAT OF EBOLA VIRUS.

The news of the outbreak of Ebola fever in some countries in West Africa, including several parts of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia has sent shock waves across the region, and reverberated in other parts of the world.

West African countries like Senegal have since closed their land borders to check inter-border spread of the disease.

With death tolls rising in the affected countries, Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Keiji Fukuda, recently described the outbreak as ‘one of the most challenging Ebola outbreaks’ the organisation has ever faced.

MTN SIGNS BANKY W, SOUND SULTAN, DR. SID AND HARRYSONG AS BRAND AMBASSADORS IN MULTI-MILLION NAIRA DEAL.

Nigeria's generous and biggest telecoms organisation, MTN, have signed Banky W, DR SID, Sound Sultan and Harrysong as MTN Nigeria Ambassadors.

This news does not come as a shock to these four artistes as there has been series of meetings and negotiations before now.

These four were also featured in the 2013 November-December Naija tour in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Ibadan.

This decision to sign more ambassadors by MTN was made possible by the raving success of the current ambassadors Don Jazzy, D’Prince, Iyanya, Praiz, Chidinma, Tiwa Savage, Davido, Wizkid, and KCEE.

#TRENDING - UNITED STATES OF SONGHAI - PROFESSOR OYEBODE PROPOSES NAME CHANGE FOR NIGERIA.

Prof. Akin Oyebode yesterday caused a stir at the National Conference when he proposed that Nigeria should change its name to United States of Songhai (USS).

The professor, who is representing Ekiti State in the Conference, said that Nigeria should be changed to United States of Songhai just like Kwame Nkruma changed the former Gold Coast to Ghana. He said that it was obvious that Nigeria as the name of the country has outlived its usefulness.

He said, “I propose that we change the name of Nigeria to United States of Songhai just like Nkruma changed Gold Coast to Ghana,” adding that the country is operating caricature federation. Oyebode noted that the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, aptly said the country is running ‘feeding bottle’ federalism.

TRAGEDY IN LAGOS AS SIX PEOPLE WERE ELECTROCUTED TO DEATH INCLUDING 4 MEMBERS OF THE SAME FAMILY

A fallen high tension wire has electrocuted six people in Oworonshoki area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria. The incident happened in the early hours of today while it was raining.

The tragedy occurred at Onabanjo Street, Oworonshoki around 2.00am. It was gathered that the high tension wire cut into two as a result of the heavy rain.

Mr. Kabiawu Babajide, General Secretary, Council of Oworonshoki Youth Forum said the high tension wire cut and fell across a drainage channel and caught fire when it came in contact with wood, adding that two vehicles parked beside the wood were burnt by the fire ignited by the wood.

FG CHARGES MUHAMMED ABACHA WITH THEFT OF N446.3B

The Federal Government has filed a new charge against the son of the late General Sani Abacha, Mohammed, accusing him of unlawfully receiving about N446.3billion allegedly stolen from government’s coffers between 1995 and 1998.

In the nine-count charge, FG accused Mohammed of “dishonestly receiving stolen property” and “voluntarily assisted in concealing money.”

The charge replaced the earlier one of 121 counts in which Mohammed was charged with Atiku Bagudu.

The government has now excluded Bagudu from the fresh charge, leaving only Mohammed.

According to the new charge marked CR.21-24/2008, the stolen money allegedly received by Mohammed, and which he was accused of concealing include 141,100,000 pound sterling and 384,353,000 UD dollars made up of cash and travellers cheques.

FULANI HERDSMEN AND NATIONAL SECURITY.

Nigeria is passing through unusual times; she has been reduced to a seething cauldron of fratricidal feuds that have now made hate, bitterness, sorrows and mutual antagonisms the companions of Nigerians. Strongmen and criminal gangs have carved the country into spheres for peddling unwholesome atrocities. Boko Haram militant Islamic sect has turned the North East part of the country into a desolated war zone where life has become short, brutish and nasty and the people are daily confronted with gory maelstroms. Kidnapping- for-ransom, a new striving business in the country, is creating social convulsions in the South East and South South, while ritual killing has discounted life in the South West.

As if these are not enough burden for one nation, a new scourge of mindless killing of innocent people and large scale ruination of people’s economies has manifested in parts of the North Central and North West of the country in particular and the entire country in general. Cattle rustlers or Fulani herdsmen have been fingered as the masterminds. All these add up to a painful reality that Nigeria might become a failed state unless she is mended back to good health by the political leadership. This is the challenge before President Goodluck Jonathan and the governors of the 36 states of the federation.

FROM HIT GROUPS TO DISAPPOINTING SOLO CAREERS.

REMEDIES

They made great hits and were loved by all. They gained fame and fortune, and suddenly, when everyone thought they would stick for life, they split. What followed was unimaginable; an amazingly disappointing solo careers, for most. Interestingly, however, there are a few who are doing well for themselves.

This is the mixed fortunes of the Nigerian music industry where it appears that musical groups are increasingly becoming extinct. Have you ever given thought to what is happening to individual members of the Plantashun Boiz or the Remedies? How about Kush, Mandators, Xclusives, Zule Zoo, Tribesmen, JJC and the 419 Squad, Oriental Brothers, Junior and Pretty, Maintain and countless others? Indeed, the Nigerian music industry has witnessed awesome and shock changes, and still. In the last few years, for instance, the Nigerianized Rhythms and Blues and African Hip-Hop, have improved in terms of lyrical contents and packaging, including the videos.

EBOLA EPIDEMIC, LASSA FEVER AND THE BUSH MEAT CONNECTION.

Stop eating bush meat!”Anyaa Vohiri, Executive Director of Liberia’s Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, warned on the heels of the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Hemorrhagic fever in the West African country. In a terse statement, the health official highlighted the connection between the Mano River countries and danger of the bush meat trade to lives of animals and humans in the region.

“Obviously, our borders do not stop viruses from crossing, and the killing and cross border trade of our threatened and protected animals has health and ecological side effects,” Vohiri remarked.

This warning, Vanguard Features, VM, gathered, is not unfounded. By a long shot, the last is yet to be heard about the rampaging Ebola epidemic.

LAGOS GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN ORPHANAGE AND RESCUES 5 CHILDREN.

The Lagos State government has shut an illegal orphanage at Alagbado in Agbado‑Okeodo Local Council Development Area, LCDA and rescued five children from the home.

The orphanage, Stream of Mercy and Love for Humanity Centre, located at Ilapo village, Alagbado was never registered with the state government before it commenced operation about two years ago.

Sources said that officials of the Office of Youth and Social Development, OYSD, stormed the area last Thursday, arresting the caregiver found in the orphanage and shut the premises.

The officials rescued five children who were between the ages of one and eight years. Also, Mrs. Glory Ebenezer, the owner of the orphanage was said to be away at the time of closure.

SECURITY OFFICIALS STOPS ENGINEERING GRADUATE WHO JUMPED OUT OF A MOVING BUS FROM COMMITTING SUICIDE.

An unemployed engineering graduate of Ekiti State University, Mr. Sunday Omotayo, was on Wednesday prevented from committing suicide by the police and prison officials.

Omotayo, who caused a stir along Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, when he deliberately jumped out of a speeding Toyota Hiace bus, expecting to be crushed to death by other vehicles, said he was tired of life as he had been searching for a job for the past 10 years after graduation.

Some policemen, who were on patrol at the time of the incident, told our correspondent that Omotayo had in the morning gone to the state prison asking the officials to either kill him or make way for him to rot in the prison.

A prison officer, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that they saw him – well dressed and wearing a tie – running towards them. He added that his action forced them to become alert with their guns.

(VIDEO) CHELSEA QUALIFIES FOR LAST 4 OF 2014 UCL. CHE 2 PSG 0.

The away goal scored in France and Ibrahimovic's injury was going to be a factor and yet it was.

Chelsea thoroughly deserved the 2- 0 victory and it could have been much more had 2 efforts not kissed the bar. Though the aggregate score was 3-3, Chelsea progressed to the last 4.

The most unlikely hero, "Demba Ba" came off the bench to score in the 84th minute after the German machine "Schurrle" had put them ahead in the 32nd minute.

Congrats to Mourinho's Army........... At this point, anything is possible. Chelsea might just win the UCL. They have the ability.

BANK CONTRACT WORKERS AND THE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE CAREER GROWTH - IFE ADEDAPO

The career aspirations of contract workers in financial institutions appeared dashed as they have little or no opportunity to progress, IFE ADEDAPO writes

The feeling of unfair treatment and lack of career fulfilment by contract employees in the banking sector is of major concern to stakeholders, investigations have revealed.

Contract or casual labour came about as a result of reforms in the banking sector and it serves as a measure for the institutions to remain competitive by adopting cost-cutting measures to reduce expenditure.

AFRICA'S BIGGEST ECONOMY BY FIGURES.

How does an economy that does not have regular electricity, where infrastructure is in deficit and most of the people are so poor that the Gross Domestic Product per capita does not get into their pockets, become the largest in Africa?

It seems a miracle that any calculations can place Nigeria’s economy above South Africa’s with our well-recounted challenges, including queues for petrol. They have been on for almost a month in the 2014 season of a national series of embarrassments. Nigeria, its economy and policies that propel them are mainly embarrassments.

The rebasing that pushed Nigeria’s GDP to $509 billion, ahead of South Africa’s $350 billion, is 24 years late. Nigeria had been working with a 1990 base. While the exercise saw GDP jump 89 per cent from N42.3 trillion (2013) to N80.3 trillion, the economy’s acknowledgement of sectors like telecommunications, music and Nollywood should mark more efforts at harnessing the potentials the sectors hold.

THE DEADLY EBOLA VIRUS AND LABARAN MAKU'S INEPTITUDE - BAMIDELE OLATEJU

Nigeria produces, on daily basis, the sharpest minds in the world. Yet, the same country produces the dullest brains whose parade of ignorance continues to shame us. The deadly Ebola virus has killed more than 90 people in Guinea and Liberia with another suspected case reported in Mali. The resulting panic has set the world as well as smaller and less endowed West African countries on the edge but in Nigeria it is déjà vu all over again. No Shaking!

If God doesn’t deliver us, wishful thinking will. Those countries battling with Ebola really needs to improve on their religious beliefs because God is a Nigerian. Since Nigerians pray to Him most, He definitely loves Nigerians best to the exclusion of other countries. Our West African neighbours are better off tapping into our ANOINTING or ask our Minister of (Dis)Information, Labaran Maku, to “bless” them with some vials of the Ebola vaccine we have stockpiled. Since Miracles happen in Nigeria everyday, it is not unlikely that the World Health Organization (WHO), America’s Centers For Disease Control (CDC), National Institute Of Health (NIH), France’s Institut Pasteur and other world research bodies are unaware that we have scientists that have produced vaccines for this deadly viral fever that kills nine out of every ten victims. That is the power of anointing a la Nigeria! The rest of the world knows there is no vaccine for this virus, it exists only in the twisted logic of Mr. Maku.

BIGGEST ECONOMY ON PAPER ONLY - FASHOLA FAULTS NIGERIA'S RECENT ECONOMY RATINGS.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state and his Ogun state counterpart, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, yesterday, faulted the statistics released by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics, NBS, which rated the country’s economy as the 26th largest in the world, saying; “The new statistics does not truly reflect the real worth of the country’s economy.”

This came as Lagos government said residents of state spent at least N4 billion daily to purchase food items.

They duo spoke at the opening ceremony of the 7th Lagos Economic Summit, Ehingbeti 2014, with the theme “Powering the Lagos economy: Real opportunities, endless possibilities”, held in Lagos, with former Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji and others in attendance.

LAMIDO GIVES CONDITION FOR SOUTH-SOUTH RESOURCE CONTROL....

The Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha, again on Tuesday stoked a fresh controversy at the ongoing National Conference when he gave a stringent condition for a 100 per cent resource control.

He also kicked against autonomy for ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, saying it would give room for many demands.

In a tacit reference to the people of the Niger-Delta who have been clamouring for resource control, Mustapha said they should be ready to lose their lands in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The latest controversy is coming barely two weeks after the monarch had told the conference that his kingdom extended to Cameroon and he still had his kith and kins there who would receive him and his people if the North seceded from Nigeria.

YET ANOTHER HYPOCRITE - FANI KAYODE VISITS THE MAN HE TERMED "THE PRESIDENT WITHOUT BALLS".

Nigerian politicians and their cohorts are just weird set of humans.

First, it was the most outspoken critic of government who was the Chairman of the Editorial board of Guardian Newspaper, Mr. Reuben Abati who jumped ship and became the spokesman of the same government he criticized vehemently.

Now, the two-faced FFK, who has written many articles lambasting the government has changed the tune of his song.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday met behind closed doors with a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Fani-Kayode, who is one of the major critics of the Jonathan administration, attended the meeting which was held inside the President’s office with an unidentified man.

He, however, told state house correspondents at the end of the meeting that lasted about an hour, that there was nothing unusual in his visit to  the President, saying he was delighted he did so.

THE UNIBEN STAMPEDE - ANOTHER IGNORED TRAGEDY.

Scarcities create desperation. The authorities are ignoring this fact as they mangle the future of Nigeria with policies that do not serve even the present. Millions of our people cannot access the basics for living.

They strive, they toil, yet at the vital moments, governments and their organisations are to play a role, efforts dissolve into nothingness and  in most circumstances, deaths follow. The most current mode of death is stampedes.

After the Nigeria immigration Service, NIS, recruitment exercise that claimed 19 lives, we are still paying minimal attention to crowd management. Worse still, we are not thinking of ways of handing such exercises without thousands of people being assembled and subjected to dehumanising conditions.

LAGOS BOAT ACCIDENTS AND UNSAFE WATERWAYS.

After two passenger boats sank within three weeks, we are likely heading to the wrong reaction if we may just ban water transportation! The stand of most commentators on the matter points to this direction. It is like recommending decapitation as cure for headaches.

Cities like Lagos can benefit a lot from the waters around them. What would Venice or Amsterdam be without their waters? They have put them to good uses, creating efficiencies in transportation and living with their waters.

Boat tragedies are no excuses for banning water transportation. They are rather challenges to regulatory standards that guide the uses of our waters.  We have to use our waters more; we have to work on regulations and implementation standards that would ensure safety.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S N114B IS MISSING IN TRANSIT.

It sounds so bizarre that allocations to some Federal Government agencies in excess of N114 billion have been lost in transit. But for a parliamentary inquest, the public would not even have known this. For President Goodluck Jonathan, always dismissive of the abysmal level of corruption in the country, this matter presents further evidence. Since March 14, the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has been quizzing officials of the Budget Office, Central Bank of Nigeria, Police Force, Ministry of Police Affairs and Office of the Head of Service of the Federation on this tangled skein.

At the behest of the President, Lamido Sanusi, the suspended Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, had remitted N19.7 billion to the Ministry of Police Affairs, for the police to buy “armoured helicopters and security equipment.” Sanusi stated this in his reply to the government’s allegation of financial recklessness against him. Curiously, both the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, and the ministry, told the House committee that they did not see the cash.
