PRESIDENT BUHARI APPOINTS HIMSELF AS PETROLEUM MINISTER. #THELIST.


Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is to take personal charge of the country’s crucial oil portfolio, his spokesman said on Tuesday, as a deadline loomed for him to finally nominate his cabinet.

Reports from New York, where Buhari has been attending the UN General Assembly, quoted the president as saying he would be minister of petroleum resources, with a junior minister taking charge of day-to-day affairs in the sector.

“Confirmed. He said so,” his spokesman Femi Adesina told AFP in a text message, without giving further details.

ELDER STATESMAN GAMALIEL ONOSODE PASSES ON AT 82.


Foremost technocrat and boardroom Czar, Deacon Gamaliel Onosode, 82, is dead.

Mr. Onosode died Tuesday morning at Gold Cross Hospital, Ikoyi Lagos at about 8:15am after a protracted illness.

Onosode was flown home yesterday from London.

A former finance minister, Olu Falae, who was kidnapped and released last week, has provided shocking details of his ordeal at the hands of his abductors, narrating how he was deprived of food and made to trek several kilometres to freedom.

Mr. Falae said he was kidnapped by six Fulani herdsmen last Monday at his Ilado farm in Akure.

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who spoke to journalists in his home in Akure, said the armed hoodlums threatened to kill him every 30 minutes until they received information that money had been given to them as demanded.

CAUSE OF MINA STAMPEDE WHICH KILLED OVER 700 PILGRIMS REVEALED.


A British Hajj tour operator advisor claimed on Friday a stampede that killed hundreds outside Mecca was caused by the Saudi king’s decision to close already overcrowded roads.

Mohammed Jafari, an adviser to a British Hajj tour operator, said the deaths of 717 people were “the fault of the Saudi government” because “every time a Prince comes along” they closed the roads and fail to consider “the disaster waiting to happen.”

The Hajj stampede, believed to have originated at a crossroads between Streets 202 and 223 in the Mecca neighbourhood of Mina, is the deadliest in 25 years. 

SARAKI - SENATE SET FOR STORMY SESSION AS THEY RESUME TOMORROW.


There are indications that Senators that are opposed to Dr. Bukola Saraki’s leadership of the Senate are poised to ask for his resignation when the upper federal legislative chamber re-opens on Tuesday (tomorrow).

The anti-Saraki Senators are citing the trial of the Senate president by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false asset declaration as a reason for Saraki to go while his supporters are saying the man should not be proclaimed guilty before he goes through the judicial process.

The Senate will resume plenary on Tuesday. The lawmakers have been on break since August 13.

MINISTERIAL LIST - APC CHAIRMAN SUMMONS EMERGENCY MEETING.


Strong indications emerged, yesterday, that the Senate will receive the ministerial list from President Muhammadu Buhari tomorrow or Wednesday.

Ahead of the submission of the Ministerial list by President Buhari, National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC, for today.

According to a source, besides discussing the proposed ministerial list, the party leadership will brainstorm on the multiple crises rocking it.

55 NIGERIANS CONFIRMED DEAD IN MINA STAMPEDE.


Fifty-four Nigerians have been confirmed to have died during Thursday’s stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia NAN reports. The confirmation was given by Alhaji Abdullahi Mukhtar, Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Monday at a news conference in Makkah.

No fewer than 717 pilgrims died and 805 others injured in the stampede when the pilgrims trooped to perform the ritual of the symbolic stoning of the devil. Mukhtar said 61 other Nigerian pilgrims were injured during the incident. He said 42 of the deceased pilgrims were transported to Saudi Arabia by state Pilgrims’ Welfare Agencies, while 12 came through Private Tour Operators

EMIR OF KANO SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI SECRETLY MARRIES 18-YR-OLD ADAMAWA PRINCESS.


The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has finally tied the knot with his rumoured heartthrob, Sa’adatu Barkindo-Musdafa, the daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo-Musdafa.

The 18-year old becomes the emir’s fourth wife. She recently completed secondary school and is been enrolled for advanced level studies.

In addition to his first wife, Sadiya, who is the daughter of the late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, Mr. Sanusi has two other wives — Maryam and Rakiya.

46-YR-OLD MAN RAPES 11-YR-OLD DAUGHTER, IMPREGNATES NEIGHBOUR'S DAUGHTER. #SAYNOTORAPE.


A 46-year-old man, Morris Ndidwe, has allegedly raped his 11-year-old daughter and impregnated a neighbour’s daughter in Delta State.

The man has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command.

Ndidwe, according to his wife, had made several attempts of having carnal knowledge of his 11-year-old daughter in the past before the last one that landed him in police net.

BOKO HARAM ATTACKS DSS OFFICE IN KOGI, FREES 30 PRISONERS.


No fewer than 30 people detained at the Kogi State office of the Directorate of State Service were freed on Friday night when it was attacked by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect.

This was as four people, including an anti-riot policeman, were reportedly killed in the attack by the invading insurgents.

The attackers were said to have immediately made for the cell of the DSS office located along Hassan Katsina Road, Lokoja, and released all suspects kept there after gaining entrance.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday recalled how he joined other leaders of the Economic Community of West African States to facilitate quick restoration of civilian rule in Burkina Faso, a day after President Muhammadu Buhari hosted an Extraordinary session of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Governments in Abuja.

A decision was taken at the summit to ensure the termination of last week’s military coup in the West African nation.

According to a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Vice President, who represented Buhari in Ouagadougou, said the leaders were in the country’s capital to convey the recommendations agreed by ECOWAS leaders in Abuja.

HOW OVER 717 PILGRIMS DIED IN MECCA. #HAJJSTAMPEDE.

No fewer than 717 pilgrims were killed on Thursday, while 863 were injured during a stampede which occurred at an Islamic event held in the city of Mina, about two miles from Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The event was one of the last rituals of theHajj season, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, which is known as “stoning the devil.”
The Thursday tragedy is the deadliest in the city since 1990 when 1,426 people died in a similar stampede. In 2006, the stampede killed 363 people, Al Jazeera reports.

EKITI PEOPLE DEFY IMAMS, TROOP OUT IN MASS TO COLLECT GOVERNOR FAYOSE'S RAM & RICE.


Muslims in Ekiti State on Tuesday defied the purported directives by some of their leaders not to accept Sallah Rams, bags of rice and other types of food items from Governor Ayo Fayose, as they trooped in their numbers to the government house, Ado Ekiti, to collect the rams distributed by the governor for Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The League of Imams and Alfas, Ekiti State had last week urged Muslims to reject the gifts on the allegation that their members were not adequately represented in Fayose’s appointments.

Though, another group had countered the League of Imams and Alfas for that action, describing those behind the directive as impostors.
