FASHOLA SNUBS QUESTIONS RELATED TO CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS.


The immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday refused to answer questions on the allegations of corruption levelled against him.

Fashola was alleged to have spent N139m on two boreholes at the Lagos House, Ikeja, and another N78.3m for the upgrade of a personal website.

The former governor, who was the guest speaker at the 16th Bishop Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture, urged Nigerians to ensure that they hold their leaders accountable always.

ASSETS DECLARATION - PRESIDENT BUHARI DECLARES, 270 CATTLES, MUD HOUSES WHILE VP OSIBANJO IS WORTH SEVERAL MILLIONS.


President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday made public details of their assets, which had been declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

According a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President has about N30m in his only bank account with the Union Bank Plc, while the Vice President has a balance of N94m, $900,000 and 19,000 pounds in his bank accounts.

Shehu’s statement said the President had shares in Berger Paints, Skye Bank and Union Bank and a total of seven houses, comprising two mud and a standard house in Daura, his hometown; two homes in Kaduna, one in Kano and one in Abuja.

DSS SACKS MARILYN OGAR & 44 OTHER SENIOR OFFICIALS OVER ALLEGED PARTISANSHIP.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has sacked its former spokesperson, Ms Marilyn Ogar and 44 other top directors in the security agency.

Marilyn Ogar who was the former deputy director of agency was removed two months ago and equally lost her promotion following President Muhammadu Buhari’s nullification of the exercise upon assumption in office.

The secret service former spokesperson’s fate may not be unconnected with her alleged role in the last administration and the run-up to the 2015 election.

It will be recalled that Ogar had been accused of alleged partisanship in the build-up to the general elections.

COURT BARS EFCC FROM PROSECUTING SEN. STELLA ODUAH OVER PURCHASE OF 2 ARMOURED CARS FOR N160M.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from inviting a former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, for questioning.

The judge ordered the EFCC to stay action on Oduah as regards the purchase of two armoured BMW cars at a cost of N160m in 2013 by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority under her watch.

The order, made on August 26, 2015, is also binding on the ICPC, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police.

THREE DIE IN OJUELEGBA AS 40FT TRAILER CARRYING A CONTAINER FELL OF THE BRIDGE & CRUSHED TWO VEHICLES.


No fewer than three people were killed on Wednesday after a container on a 40-feet trailer fell off the Ojuelegba Bridge onto the road below.

It was learnt that the container, which was not latched to the trailer, crushed two private vehicles which were in motion.

The vehicles, a white Toyota and a black jeep, were reportedly mangled under the weight of the container.

A 34-year-old factory worker, Mohammed Ahmed, on Wednesday said he raped his daughter six times.

Ahmed, who was paraded by officials of the Osun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said he started having sex with his 14-year-old daughter ( name withheld) in April, 2015.

The distraught primary five girl was not allowed to speak with reporters .

FIVE WITNESSES TO TESTIFY AGAINST EX NSA SAMBO DASUKI.

The Federal Government has proposed five witnesses to prove its case of illegal possession of firearms against a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd).

The ex-NSA was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.

The five government witnesses, according to the prosecution’s list of witnesses, are operatives of the Department of State Services, who were part of the search operation conducted at Dasuki’s residence at 13, John Khadiya Street, Asokoro, Abuja, on July 16, 2015.

BODIES OF THREE POLICEMEN KILLED BY PIPELINE VANDALS/MILITANTS IN OWUTU-IKORODU STILL MISSING.


The attack on a team of policemen in Owutu area of Ikorodu, Lagos, in the early hours of Monday, during which three policemen were shot dead and others injured, was said to have been carried out by militants-turned vandals. 

This is just as the policeman, who managed to escape from the scene of the shooting, attributed his survival to his name.

The surviving policeman, a Sergeant identified as Fortunate Endurance Imasuen, according to a family friend who spoke on condition, said: “My name, Fortunate, saved me. For the first time in my life, I knew the meaning of my name.

40-YR-OLD MAN RAPES 4-YR-OLD GIRL TO DEATH IN BAYELSA. #SAYNOTORAPE.


Officials of United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, and other stakeholders in the protection of the rights of the child were shocked, yesterday, to hear of the case of a 40-year-old man that raped a four-year-old girl to death in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The revelation was made by the State Coordinator of Child Protection Network, CPN, Mrs. Mariam Kombo-Ezeh.

She also revealed two other cases of child abuse, which occurred in the state, including the death of a seven-year-old girl of complications from HIV/AIDS after being raped and infected by a man, and another 13-year-old girl gang-raped in Yenagoa, the state capital.

28-YR-OLD GRADUATE & 4 OTHERS NABBED WITH N57M WORTH OF COCAINE.


A 28-year-old university graduate of Economics, Nonso Akubueze, has been arrested along with four other suspects by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged drug trafficking.

It was learnt that Akubueze and the other suspects – Simon Omoluonye, Obidike Onodyer, Friday Onyeabor and Emma Ifoh – were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with 11.5 kilogrammes of cocaine substances valued at N57m.

It was gathered that the suspects had smuggled the drug into the country from Brazil.

NIGERIA RISK ECONOMIC DECLINE - PRESIDENT BUHARI.


President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday warned that with the fall in oil prices, Nigeria risked economic decline, if it failed to manage its resources prudently.

Buhari gave the warning during a meeting with members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari urged accountants to take their audit reports seriously.

45-YR-OLD CHARGED FOR RAPING & IMPREGNATING 16-YR-OLD. #SAYNOTORAPE.


A 45-year-old driver, Ganiyu Afolabi, was yesterday charged before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 16-year-old girl.

This came as 22-year-old Oluwatudimi Folajimi has been charged before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly forging an identity card of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, to enable him write exams for a 400-level student of medicine.

On the rape case, the accused, who lives at Meiran area of Lagos State, was said to have called the victim to his room under the pretext of sending her on an errand and defiled her.

PRESIDENT BUHARI DID NOT MAKE 100-DAYS PROMISES - PRESIDENCY INSIST.


The Presidency insisted on Tuesday that President Muhammadu Buhari did not promise Nigerians that he would achieve specific things within his first 100 days in office.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, stated this while responding to questions about reports on documents titled, “One Hundred Things Buhari Will Do in 100 Days” and “My Covenant with Nigerians.”

Shehu said the documents did not emanate from the official channel of Buhari’s campaign media department.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with raping a nine-year-old family friend at a state fair.

Jonathan Fleming was arrested at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium after the victim's father became concerned when he saw the pair together.

An investigation by the Crimes Against Children Unit alleges that Fleming has been sexually abusing the girl since she was about three years old. 

38 VIRGINS DIE IN SWAZILAND ROAD ACCIDENT ENROUTE KING'S WIFE CHOOSING CEREMONY.


A road accident in Swaziland has killed 38 girls and seriously injured 20 others who were on their way to a traditional ceremony where King Mswati III can choose a new wife, pro-democracy activists reported.

The accident happened on Friday night when their open truck smashed into a car on the road between the tiny kingdom's two main cities, Mbabane and Manzini, en route to the traditional Reed Dance.

"A total of 38 young girls have been pronounced dead, with more than 20 others seriously injured," Swaziland Solidarity Network spokesman Lucky Lukhele said.

HOW SEVEN DIED IN KADUNA AIRFORCE PLANE CRASH.


A light military plane, Dornier 2k,  has   crashed in Kaduna with all seven on board feared dead. 

The plane, which took off   from Dana Airport, operated by the Nigeria Air Force, NAF, in Kaduna, came down some minutes after at the Kantoma Army Barracks, otherwise known as the NDA Barracks, around 6. 45am on Saturday morning, a source said..

At the time of this report, all movement into and outside the barracks  was barred.

TAX EVASION - FIRS GOES AFTER 325,000 COMPANIES AND PERSONS.


The Federal Inland Revenue Service would soon go after multinational companies, corporate organisations and individuals who are evading payment of taxes in the country.

The move is part of a renewed effort by the agency to boost tax revenue to fund the programmes of the Federal Government.

Statistics obtained from the service revealed that out of the 450,000 companies in Nigeria, only 125,000, representing 27.7 per cent, pay any form of taxes.

The ongoing probe of the immediate past administration by President Muhammadu Buhari is to beam its searchlight on the alleged purchase of three mobile stages, costing $6.9m, by former President Goodluck Jonathan and two of his officials, a Presidency source has said.

According to a document, which was obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The fund was said to have been withdrawn from one of the numerous accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
