US WARNS OF TERROR ATTACKS ON SHERATON HOTELS IN LAGOS

Whenever the US issues a security statement regarding terror attacks in Nigeria, the information is usually invaluable.

The United States has warned its citizens of planned attacks on Sheraton hotels in Lagos. The country also warned its nationals against going to Yobe, Adamawa and Borno states.

The hotels, owned by Starwood, are the Sheraton Hotel and Towers Lagos and the Four Points By Sheraton Lagos.

The US Consul General in Lagos, in an alert on the website of the US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria on Friday, warned American residents and those coming into the country to avoid certain places in the country.

US OFFERS TO HELP NIGERIA TO RESCUE ABDUCTED GIRLS. #BRINGBACKOURGIRLS.

The United States said on Thursday it had offered to help Nigeria in its search for around 200 girls abducted by Islamist militants from a school in the northeast of the West African country.

"We have been engaged with the Nigerian government in discussions on what we might do to help support their efforts to find and free these young women," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf told a daily briefing. "We will continue to have those discussions and help in any way we can."

Gunmen suspected to be from the radical Islamist movement Boko Haram on April 14 stormed an all-girls secondary school in the village of Chibok, in Borno state, packed the teenagers onto trucks and disappeared into a remote area along the border with Cameroon.

BOKO HARAM WILLING TO CONSIDER RELEASE OF REMAINING SCHOOL GIRLS AS 3 ARE REPORTED DEAD - CHANNEL4NEWS. #BRINGBACKOURGIRLS

The jihadis who kidnapped more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls two weeks ago say they are "willing to consider" the release of those who have not already been trafficked abroad and sold into marriage.

The girls' abductors, who have been in regular direct contact with a government intermediary, also report that three of their teenaged captives have died - although they did not state how this happened. Eighteen others, they say, are now sick.

The intermediary told Channel 4 News that the al-Qaeda-affiliated group, Boko Haram, has threatened to kill the remaining hostages if there is any attempt by the Nigerian military to rescue the girls. Meanwhile in the capital Abuja, the Nigerian government is coming under intense public pressure to secure the girls' release.

On Wednesday, the government admitted for the first time that it had officially engaged the services of the negotiator. It declined to reveal his identity. He has told Channel 4 News that he wishes to remain anonymous for reasons of personal security.

#BRINGBACKOURGIRLS - 4 BATTALIONS MOBILISE FOR SAMBISA FOREST.

Seventeen days after 234 students of the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, Borno State, were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists and the public outcry that have continued to greet the alleged uncoordinated approach of the security agents to rescue them, a major military operation is set to commence as four different battalions, a little more than a Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have been mobilised.

Meanwhile, Borno State Police Command and the Department of State Service, DSS, office in the state, yesterday, released new figures of the missing schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents, saying 276 students, not 234 were initially taken away.

This has contradicted the earlier claims by parents of the affected girls, who said 234 of their daughters were kidnapped when the insurgents attacked the school.

INDIAN MAN SETS HIMSELF ABLAZE THEN EMBRACES POLITICIAN ON TV DEBATE AS BOTH SUFFER SERIOUS BURNS.

A television debate in India ended in horror when a spectator set himself alight before embracing a politician, leaving both men fighting for their lives.

The man, named by police as Durgesh Kumar Singh, emerged from a crowd of about 150 onlookers, doused himself in petrol then grabbed the local leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Kamruzzama Fauji.

Singh sustained burns on 95 per cent of his body which doctors say are likely to be fatal, while Fauji was in critical condition with 75 per cent burns, police said.

THE TRUTH ABOUT #CHIBOK234 - NIRAN ADEDOKUN

“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children”

– Nelson Mandela

Over and above every act of irresponsibility to the nation and others in Nigeria, nothing tells of the extent of the erosion of our values like our collective attitude to our children. We are a country that has currently lost every capacity for shock.  Nothing shocks Nigerians again, not even the abduction of over 200 girls from the GovernmentGirls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State and the inability to find them after two weeks.  It is a sad commentary that should make us all bow our heads in penitence. Apparently, we are a country with a dead soul.

(VIDEO) How Real Madrid destroyed Bayern Munich in Germany.

Real Madrid simply turned on style at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night as they romped to a 0-4 win over Bayern Munich to secure their place in the finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League.

Two goals each from Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo was more than enough to see Madrid stay in the run for the coveted European football silverware while it meant the end of the road for defending champions Bayern.

Gareth Bale had the first real chance of the game after Manuel Neuer came off his line to head the ball away, but failed to clear the Welshman, but his finish went well high.

How Jonathan, His Government And The Rest of Us Have Failed Abducted Schoolgirls. #BringBackOurGirls.

There is a limit to impunity, beyond which a country can no longer call itself a country with any shred of pride. We passed that mark on that grim Monday when members of the hideous Boko Haram sect stormed Government Secondary School Chibok, Maiduguri, and ran off with over 250 students to the Sambisa forest.

The girls, as Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, said at the Book Festival in Port Harcourt Wednesday, are, in all probability, now used as sex slaves.

Perhaps there are worse things than this. Perhaps some depraved minds could yet come up with a monstrosity to top one in which girls preparing for their GCE are seized from their school and dragged through forests to be raped by murderers.  The nightmarish horror of it is just too distasteful to imagine.

(PHOTOS) Aggrieved Chibok Women Storm Abuja, Protest At National Assembly. #BringBackOurGirls

Aggrieved mothers and other indigenes of Chibok, Borno State, today in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, staged a protest to demand the immediate rescue or release of the more than 200 secondary school girls abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on April 14.

The protesters, most of them members of the Kibaku Development Association, Chibok, converged at Eagle Square in Nigeria’s capital. From there, they marched to the National Assembly to submit a protest letter. The women were led into the premises of the national legislature by a group of senior female police officers.

The Death Of Col. Kabiru Salisu and Sundry Matters - A.S.M Jimoh

Nigeria has become a place where a day is not complete unless one or more tragic event happens. It is either a very old man or a police officer rapes a minor; a large amount of money is missing from the government coffer; armed robbers freely robbed a bank; a policeman or an NSCD corps helps blow an oil pipeline. It could also be that some students sleeping in their dormitories are killed; some over 200 girls are kidnapped from a school; MEND blows up and shuts down an oil facility; kidnappers take hostages; soldiers or policemen threaten hapless citizens with their weapons; a baby factory is discovered; human remains found in a forest or in buildings and the list goes on. Even if all of these combined happen in a day, the day is still not complete in Nigeria until the deviant Boko Haram or elusive Fulani herdsmen massacre a number of people across the land. This is the Nigeria of today.

The frequency with which these horrific events happen makes us forget in quick succession the terror culture pervading our land. The fact that the shock of the next event always surpasses the previous one is gradually making us to heed President Jonathan’s advice that terror has come to stay and we should live with it. It has numbed our emotion to horror. The regularity of occurrence and the incompetence of a political class aided by the docility of the citizens does not even allow us to probe into the cause of events.

Murtala Nyako should be impeached - Femi Aribisala.

VIce-Admiral Murtala Nyako is the Governor of Adamawa State. He was once Governor of Niger State. He was formerly Chief of Naval Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was also formerly Deputy Chief of Defense Staff. All this suggests he is a man with enough pedigree to occupy the highest echelons of government in Nigeria. However, his memo to the Northern States Governors’ Forum of April 16, 2014 and his other recent public pronouncements now indicate otherwise. Going by these, Nyako is no longer fit to be governor of Adamawa State, or any state in Nigeria for that matter.

Nyako’s diatribe
In his memo, Nyako redefined Nigeria, creating a new country out of it which he referred to as “the North.” Therefore, he addressed his broadside to “Fellow Governors and Citizens of the North.” Nyako insists: “Northern Nigeria is on its own.” But we may well ask the governor when the North became a country by itself. Having conferred statehood on the North, Nyako asks his Northern compatriots: “should we not… consider a declaration of Northern Nigerian Amnesty to the culprits (of the Northern insurgency) and consequently squarely address all other matters connected with the Amnesty and Boko-Haram syndrome?”

ARMED FORCES SET TO EMBARK ON MASSIVE RECRUITMENT TO FIGHT TERRORISM...............

The Federal Government has given  the armed forces and other security agencies the nod  to embark on mass recruitment to fight terrorism.

According to PUNCH, the directive was to give fillip to the war against terrorism in the country.

It was also learnt that those who attended the expanded National Security Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday emphasised the need for the recruitment.

A highly placed military source said that   President  Goodluck Jonathan  issued the  directive for more recruitment into the army in March after the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Kenneth Minimah,  had briefed him about the operations of the army.

The source, who did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the  matter,  said   the army did not  begin   the recruitment immediately because of the need to expand training facilities in parts of the country. It was learnt that the army would commence  the recruitment in May 2014.

(VIDEO) LIVERPOOL 0 CHELSEA 2. TITLE RACE BLOWN OPEN PLUS THREE THINGS FROM THE CLASH.

Demba Ba's first-half goal and Willian's injury-time strike gave Chelsea a stunning 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Here are three things from their Premier League clash:

1. Chelsea take the crown off Liverpool's heads.
The temptation is to call Chelsea the "party poopers," but the significance of this win means they were much more than that. They were the men who arrived at a coronation intent on grabbing the crown before it could be placed on anyone else's head.

BACARY SAGNA SET TO QUIT ARSENAL AFTER CONTRACT RENEWAL BREAKDOWN.

Bacary Sagna is set to reject Arsenal’s final contract offer move that will spell the end of his eight-year stay at the club.

Sagna has already rejected two formal offers and manager Arsene Wenger confirmed on Friday the club have tabled their final attempt to keep him.

The last is understood to be for two years with an option for a further 12 months, but Sagna’s £100,000-a-week demand has not been met. Sagna, 31, has told friends he will not sign the deal, meaning he will leave after the FA Cup final against Hull on May 17.

The defender, a target for Manchester City, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, knows his next contract will be his last big one and feels he can earn more elsewhere.

Sagna has been infuriated by the club’s attitude, feeling he has not be rewarded for his loyalty.
